Job Summary:

The Production Supervisor plans and manages the day-to-day allocation of resources for designated shift (equipment, people, materials, and systems) to efficiently, safely and cost effectively achieve performance targets as agreed with Production Management. They also ensure that a high quality of products, services, housekeeping, and hygiene standards are maintained and improved in the area; review daily achievement of targets and report variances during on-the-floor and review meetings; and coach, mentor and develop team members to meet current and future business requirements.

Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Supervises employees to ensure safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Achieves budgeted targets for raw material yield, labor, and packaging materials usage for shift.
  • Responsible for the accuracy of all production reporting related to shift.
  • Schedule and conduct daily production meetings with shift personnel.
  • Audits workstations to ensure SOPs are being followed routinely.
  • Collaborates with warehouse and quality assurance personnel to ensure prompt shipment of product.
  • Responsible for the complete and accurate reporting of shift production data.
  • Maintaining GMP / Housekeeping at a high level within the department through the involvement of all team members.
  • Develops and recommends improvements of facilities, equipment, or procedures to improve safety, quality, and efficiency.
  • Oversees and/or conducts shift training of new or existing employees.
  • Drives productivity, quality, and safety initiatives throughout production to impact productivity and the cost structure.
  • Establishes and supports a work environment of continuous improvement that supports the companies Quality policy, Quality System & the appropriate regulations for the area.
  • Oversees the management of shift production personnel.
  • Ensures production is following SunOpta QA standards, SOPs, HACCP, and GMPs.
  • Member of the Lean Steering Committee.
  • Committed to ensuring that the products produced meet all food safety and quality requirements.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional groups including Human Resources, Maintenance, Quality Assurance, Warehousing, and Finance to meet production targets.
  • All other duties, as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Manages employees on a production shift.
  • Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of assigned shift.
  • Ensures effective employee relations.
  • Provides employee coaching and development.
  • Resolves employee issues through problem resolution.
  • Manages production line performance measures and provides regular progress reports to managers.
  • Coaches and counsels employees; documents/discusses performance reviews on a timely basis.
  • Manages production priorities.
  • Tracks absenteeism and timekeeping.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associates degree in related field.
  • 5 – 7 years supervisory experience in a food manufacturing facility.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a related field.
  • LEAN Manufacturing.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Ability to use critical thinking to plan and problem-solve.
  • Must have a working knowledge of MS Word and MS PowerPoint.
  • Experience with Oracle is beneficial.

Additional Considerations:

  • Location: This position will be at the SunOpta Plant in Modesto, CA.
  • Shift: This is a day shift role on a 2-2-3 pattern; 6 am to 6:30 pm. Some flexibility outside of these hours may also be needed.
  • Work Environment: Approximately 95% of the work is performed in a production environment, 5% of work may be performed in an office environment.
