Job summary

UFP Industries, Inc. is seeking a Department Manager to drive the strategic direction of the department and to build strong relationships with sales and suppliers. This role reports to the EVP of Purchasing, exercises judgment on priorities, and requires a high degree of creativity to deliver results.

You will develop purchasing strategies, gain knowledge of plants and customers, and lead a motivated team to meet company goals while ensuring compliance with policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business or related discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of ten years of successful experience in lumber sales, purchasing and/or operations.
  • Working knowledge of commodity markets.
  • Working knowledge of panel and lumber grades.
  • Working knowledge of lumber math and business math.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Preferred experience and knowledge on UFP’s organization, culture, and product lines.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and grows relationships with key individuals in UFP operations and sales.
  • Provides current market levels and accurate predictions for the direction of the market as it relates to products in the area of influence.
  • Develops and executes innovative purchasing strategies.
  • Gains further develops an understanding of the manufacturing capabilities, customers, products, sales programs, competitors, and service needs for our plants.
  • Proactively offers relevant products and supply programs to sales and plant management.
  • Manages a highly motivated staff, and is responsible for their continued growth, development, and improvement.
  • Establishes standards for operations within the department.
  • Ensures the department is properly staffed to meet the company demands and goals.
  • Ensures the department complies with Company policies and procedures, and other rules and regulations.
  • Will have some daily buying responsibility Assists the EVP with any duties required in the function of the Purchasing department.
  • Prepares various reports as required.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Works under general direction of the EVP of Purchasing exercises discretion and judgment on work priority on a regular basis and high degree of creativity is expected. Develops and maintains relationships with sales and sales management of key suppliers and demonstrates the ability and willingness to translate those relationships into solid business.
