Nordic Ware is looking for a self-motivated, hands-on production supervisor to lead 2nd shift operations in our Molding/Spinning Department! As a working supervisor, you'll lead by example-ensuring safe, efficient production of quality parts while collaborating closely with the Department Manager, other supervisors, and support teams. What you will get to do
- Train or facilitate training of production workers in the Molding/Spinning Department to ensure all employees strive to achieve or surpass set production rates on all jobs.
- Routinely monitor in-process productivity throughout the shift to help ensure production efficiencies and quality standards are being met, including making necessary adjustments to achieve them.
- Resolve difficult equipment or tooling problems affecting quality and production by working with QA, Maintenance, or the Tool Room to ensure that all department machines are kept in working order while operating at peak performance.
- Maintain the organization of all tools, equipment, inventory, and supplies in the proper locations with the assistance of a computerized locating system.
- Monitor the condition and organization of all molds and related secondary equipment required to properly and safely complete set-ups and changeovers.
- Assist in maintaining all material storage areas, including oils, metals, plastics, packaging, and plastic colorants, and maintain a clean and safe work environment for all employees.
- Work collaboratively with Molding/Spinning Supervisors on other shifts to ensure effective information transfer, meet department goals, and ensure a smooth, efficient transition between shifts.
- Participate in staffing processes and production scheduling, which includes adding contract employees as needed.
- Train and monitor employees' compliance with company safety rules and regulations to maintain a safe working environment.
- Investigate inaccuracies in processes, inventory, timecards, or counts. Make suggestions and take the initiative to implement improvements.
- Work closely with set-up technicians, material handlers, and operators in all aspects of department production needs.
- Work with the department manager and HR to improve team performance, resolve conflicts, and provide a positive work environment that enables employees to be successful.
- Assist in scheduling jobs and tasks within the department.
- Occasionally work longer hours as needed, including coming in early or staying late to attend classes, training, or cover staffing shortages.
What You'll Bring To The Role
- High School diploma or GED required
- One (1) or more years of leadership experience
- Minimum of three (3) years' experience in an injection molding facility and/or related field preferred
- Familiarity with general production standards, quality practices, and basic maintenance of various presses, molds, and spinners
- Experience working with performance metrics such as efficiencies, downtime, and safety reports
- Understanding of LEAN manufacturing and continuous improvement techniques
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
- A sharp eye for identifying weak points in processes, with a focus on continuous improvement
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Sense of urgency and ability to influence others
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to obtain forklift certification
- Bilingual in Spanish preferred
- ERP software experience preferred (Epicor experience is a plus)
Physical Requirements
- Ability to move around production floor for a significant portion of an eight (8) hour workday
- Ability to lift and move up to thirty (30) pounds occasionally
- Requires pushing and pulling of up to 2,500 lbs. w/aid of pallet jacks or other equipment
- Must be able to clearly communicate and exchange accurate information to ensure understanding.
- Ability to use a computer for extended periods of each day
- Ability to see near and far with or without corrective lenses
- Adequate field of vision, color vision, and depth perception
