Job Summary
The primary purpose of the Production Supervisor is to manage manufacturing operations on shift to meet daily production requirements. The Production Supervisor will ensure on-time delivery of high-quality books and provide continuous improvement in regard to the manufacturing process including production cycle, workflow, and increased throughput.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Oversee daily workflow of the department(s).
- Provide constructive and timely performance evaluations.
- Other administrative duties as assigned.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Maintain a safe workplace in compliance with Sheridan’s commitment to safety. Ensure safety throughout the facility, including proper training of employees, reinforcement of such training, and recognizing and eliminating unsafe conditions.
- Actively participate in safety committees and communication team meetings.
- Provide ongoing training and development of personnel to maintain a competent workforce.
- Manage and control output of the shift to ensure all schedules are being met or exceeded.
- Administer proper cross-training of employees on the shift to maintain flexibility of the department(s).
- Accurately arrange staffing schedules for all scheduled equipment.
- Maintain proper supplies and materials utilized by the department(s).
- Measure and control the quality of the product leaving the shift by reviewing and managing the use of standard operating procedures.
- Author and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) as required.
- Evaluate staff performance, coach, and recognize accomplishments to grow their self-esteem.
- Communicate with managers and assist in developing programs to improve information flow and department effectiveness.
- Manage and maintain preventive maintenance programs for all equipment.
- Address performance issues appropriately.
- Motivate the workforce and drive improvements.
- Lead shift meetings regarding safety, policies, and performance.
- Enforce company policies and discipline when appropriate.
- Other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
- Associate degree in Business Administration or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Interpersonal skills to manage sensitive situations with tact and professionalism.
- Organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to assess, problem-solve, and make decisions daily.
- Ability to accept constructive feedback.
- Ability to work independently or in a team effectively.
- Proficient with computers, including Microsoft Office Suite.
Desired Skills and Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred.
- Minimum 3 years manufacturing supervision experience.
- Experience in book printing/binding preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to lift up to 15 pounds.
- Ability to access and navigate all departments.
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 2nd shift: 3PM – 11PM
Travel Requirements
- Minimal travel for seminars, job fairs, meetings.
- Occasional overnight stays may be required.
