Position Summary:

VIGO Photonics USA is seeking a hands-on Production Supervisor to lead and support our assembly operations. This position is responsible for the day-to-day performance of the Assembly Team, including work prioritization, production pace, workmanship, quality, technical problem-solving, and coordination across engineering and quality functions.

The Production Supervisor is expected to be actively engaged on the production floor, understand the products and assembly processes, assist technicians with technical challenges, and serve as the primary point of contact between Assembly and Engineering, R&D, Quality, and Operations.

The ideal candidate combines strong production leadership with a technical, engineering, or quality background, preferably within optics, photonics, infrared technology, electronics, precision manufacturing, or another highly technical manufacturing environment.

Required Responsibilities
  • Provide direct, hands-on supervision and technical support to a team of six Assembly Technicians.
  • Take ownership of the daily organization, prioritization, and pace of work within the assembly area.
  • Maintain visibility of work in process and proactively identify delays, bottlenecks, technical issues, or resource constraints.
  • Ensure technicians understand assembly requirements, drawings, work instructions, specifications, and quality expectations. Maintain accountability for the quality and workmanship of products produced within the assembly area.
  • Serve as the primary Assembly point of contact for Engineering and R&D
  • Investigate nonconformances, determine root causes, implement corrective actions, and prevent recurring issues.

  • Advanced proficiency in precision soldering and microsoldering, with exceptional hand dexterity and the ability to work accurately under a microscope on microelectronic components and assemblies
Qualifications
  • Technical degree, engineering education, quality background, or equivalent experience in a highly technical manufacturing environment.
  • Prior experience supervising, leading, or providing technical direction to manufacturing or assembly personnel.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing quality, inspection, troubleshooting, and root-cause problem-solving.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, technical documentation, and assembly instructions.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to clearly communicate priorities and expectations to both technicians and technical teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience within optics, photonics, infrared detectors, optical assemblies, sensors, electronics, or precision instrumentation.
  • Engineering or engineering-technology background.

  • Experience supporting R&D, prototypes, new product introduction, or prototype-to-production transitions.
  • Familiarity with precision assembly processes involving sensitive optical, electronic, mechanical, or detector components.
Ideal Candidate:

The successful candidate will be someone who is comfortable moving between leading people, organizing production, and solving technical problems directly on the floor. They should be capable of recognizing when an issue is related to workmanship, process, materials, design, or quality and bringing the appropriate people together to resolve it.

This role requires someone who takes ownership of the assigned assembly area and can serve as the central technical and operational point of contact for production, ensuring that technicians have the direction, information, and support needed to produce high-quality products efficiently.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment
