The Production Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all manufacturing processes within a production facility. This role is essential in ensuring operational efficiency, safety, quality, and productivity while supervising team members and maintaining compliance with workplace standards and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Safety
- Enforce strict adherence to safety guidelines and organizational standards.
- Ensure safe operation of equipment and coordinate regular maintenance.
- Attend bi-weekly safety walks and participate in safety programs.
- Promote and actively support safety observation programs.
- Serve as an active member of the safety committee and attend monthly meetings.
- Complete weekly safety observations and ensure job safety analyses (JSAs) are conducted before implementing new processes or equipment.
- Ensure compliance with all written safety policies and procedures.
Production Management
- Set daily, weekly, and monthly production goals and effectively communicate them to team members.
- Organize workflow, assign tasks, and prepare shift schedules.
- Identify inefficiencies and recommend actionable improvements to enhance productivity and reduce downtime.
Supervision
- Represent the organization’s values and interests both on and off-site.
- Open and secure the facility as required.
- Provide direct oversight and coaching for production team members.
- Administer fair and consistent disciplinary actions and deliver timely performance feedback.
- Conduct performance reviews and support performance improvement plans.
- Accurately document time, attendance, vacation requests, material usage, and output.
- Ensure machinery is maintained, and repairs are completed promptly.
- Maintain cleanliness and adherence to 5S principles across work areas.
- Ensure all procedures are standardized and followed correctly.
- Troubleshoot and resolve production-related and HR-related issues, escalating when necessary.
- Verify that work complies with quality standards and technical specifications.
- Initiate appropriate actions in response to production disruptions.
Training & Development
- Develop a comprehensive cross-training program to ensure all equipment and areas are staffed with qualified personnel.
- Ensure work is conducted in compliance with written ISO and standard operating procedures.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement.
- Perform additional duties as required.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or 3–5 years of related supervisory experience.
- A Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
- Experience managing a second shift is required.
- Background in lean manufacturing is strongly preferred.
- Experience supervising in a unionized environment is a plus.
- Must possess strong planning, organizational, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional departments.
Language & Communication Skills
- Proficient in English (reading, writing, and speaking).
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Able to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical personnel.
- Capable of presenting ideas in a clear, professional manner.
Analytical & Reasoning Abilities
- Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Able to evaluate complex situations and make sound, independent decisions.
Computer Skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Willingness and ability to learn new systems and software tools.

- Visual acuity to safely perform job duties
This position operates in a manufacturing plant setting, with exposure to machinery, noise, dust, and industrial hazards. Work may be performed in both office and production floor environments. Safety protocols must be followed at all times.
