Job summary

High Liner Foods in Newport News, VA is seeking a 2nd Shift Production Superintendent to lead production, ensure safety and quality, and drive efficiency. You will collaborate with managers and teams, apply lean principles, and support new product processing while maintaining GMP standards.

Ideal candidates hold a technical BS/BA and 3–5 years of leadership experience in consumable production, with strong communication and problem-solving skills to sustain high performance.

Qualifications

Description

Job Overview:

This 2nd Shift Production Superintendent oversees efficient production of quality products through effective communication with managers, team members, and all other departments within the organization.

Essential Duties and responsibilities
  • Responsible to ensure the attainment of Facility Food Safety Standards, Production of Products that meet or exceed customer and product specifications. Food Safety- Compliance to specs, HACCP and GMP's.
  • Attainment of high scores on Quality audits and reduction of customer complaints.
  • Assurance of up-to-date, cost effective manufacture of products through increased efficiency, quality standards, and company objectives.
  • Support the timely and cost effective manufacture of products through increased efficiency, quality standards, and company objectives.
  • Keep current with all new labor laws including HR, as well as, all governmental regulations, etc. to ensure a safe & healthy working environment for themselves and those they supervise.
  • Implement Lean Manufacturing Principles or ‘Problem Solving & Lessons Learned’ procedures to ensure continual growth within the company.
  • Provide assistance to Research & Development (R&D) in the processing of new products. A basic knowledge of cuttings and processing specifications is required in this area.
  • Managers are responsible for developing the proper attitudes toward safety and health in themselves and in those they supervise, and for promoting that all operations are performed with the utmost regard for the safety and health of all personnel involved including themselves.
  • Ensure the facility and equipment are properly maintained, cleaned, and sanitized on a daily basis to produce products that meet HLF and all governmentally established Food Safety standards.
  • Responsible for the continual training of their production employees in cost effective and safe production methods and performance.
  • Responsible for, and has the authority to, resolve production problems and complexities and acts as an intermediary for the Manufacturing
  • Manager on those issues that need not go to that level, in compliance with established policies and objectives.
  • Closely review of performance, analysis of reports, downtime, labor and material usage, etc., with the Manager, Manufacturing
Qualifications
  • BS or BA degree in a related technical field.
  • 3 to 5 years of leadership experience with a background in consumable production procedures and supervision.
  • A basic knowledge of cuttings and processing specifications is required.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of both Scheduling procedures and costing of products is required to ensure the production of products in an efficient & cost effective manner.
  • Must have the ability to effectively delegate responsibilities and follow up with projects to completion.
  • Good communication and mathematical skills and a good rapport with coworkers and subordinates.
  • Self-motivated and capable of sound decisions and viable solutions to problems.
  • Highly collaborative, engages other leaders and team members to resolve challenges together.
  • Demonstrates a passion for product quality, food safety and standards
  • Demonstrates a commitment to driving a focus on health and safety practices everyday

Salary Transparency:

High Liner Foods’ compensation offerings are founded in a pay-for-performance philosophy that recognizes individual and team performance. The typical hiring range for this position is from $85,000 - $96,000; the base pay is offered based on a variety of factors including geographical market location, and may vary depending on job grading practices, job-related knowledge, skills, experience and internal equity factors. As part of our total rewards offering, employees may be eligible to participate in an annual short-term incentive program [and long-term incentive program] (for Dir+) subject to program eligibility requirements.

Working conditions

Office Environment:
The noise level in the office work environment is moderately quiet.

Plant Environment:
The plant work environment will expose the employee to loud noise, food grade dust & odors, moving & vibrating machinery, heavy equipment, powered industrial trucks, heights, traffic, anhydrous ammonia, oil and electricity. The employee may be exposed to adverse weather conditions including extreme cold, heat, rain, snow, dust, smoke and odors. Flexibility of work hours. Ability to work on feet for extended periods of time if needed.
Physical requirements/Allergens
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, sit, talk, listen, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to use hands to handle, operate, and feel objects, tools or controls. The employee is occasionally required to operate a motor vehicle to travel to off-site meetings. The employee must have visual acuity sufficient to operate a motor vehicle and digital camera, as well as other office and position equipment. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Employee must be able to hear and speak clearly in order to communicate with clients, coworkers, employees and vendors.
