Job summary

Ember Grey is seeking an experienced Production Superintendent to lead the safe, reliable operation of the Nitric Acid and Ammonium Nitrate units at its Arkansas facility. This leadership role will supervise shift supervisors and operations personnel while driving operational excellence and process safety.

You will partner with Engineering, Maintenance, Reliability, Projects, and Plant Leadership to improve safety culture, reliability, and process optimization, while supporting capital projects

Qualifications

  • Leadership experience supervising operations personnel.
  • Strong knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM).
  • Experience in chemical manufacturing or heavy industrial operations.

Job description

Seeking an experienced Production Superintendent to join a leading chemical manufacturing organization at its Arkansas facility.

This is a leadership role responsible for overseeing the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the Nitric Acid and Ammonium Nitrate units, while leading shift supervisors and operations personnel. The successful candidate will drive operational excellence, process safety, reliability, continuous improvement, and workforce development while working closely with Engineering, Maintenance, Reliability, Projects, and Plant Leadership.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, mentor, and develop shift supervisors, operators, and process engineering personnel through coaching, training, and performance management.
  • Provide operational leadership for the Nitric Acid and Ammonium Nitrate production units.
  • Ensure production targets are achieved while maintaining product quality, safety, environmental, and reliability standards.
  • Drive a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with PSM, OSHA, EPA, and environmental requirements.
  • Lead process safety activities including Management of Change (MOC), Process Hazard Analyses (PHA), incident investigations, and corrective action programs.
  • Monitor operational KPIs including production rates, efficiencies, environmental performance, and reliability metrics.
  • Identify and eliminate operational constraints through structured problem-solving and root cause analysis.
  • Partner with Maintenance and Reliability teams to prioritize reliability improvements and minimize unplanned downtime.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts during abnormal operating conditions, process upsets, and other operational challenges.
  • Support capital projects, engineering initiatives, turnaround planning, shutdowns, and commissioning activities.
  • Ensure operating procedures, technical standards, and training documentation are accurate, current, and aligned with best practices.
  • Develop and maintain operator qualification and certification programs.
  • Support workforce planning, succession development, and continuous improvement initiatives across the assigned operations.
  • Drive initiatives focused on cost reduction, process optimization, production improvement, and operational discipline.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field highly preferred.
  • 8-15 years of experience in chemical manufacturing or heavy industrial operations.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience supervising operations personnel within a manufacturing or process environment.
  • Strong understanding of Process Safety Management (PSM) and regulatory compliance.
  • Proven experience with operational troubleshooting and problem-solving in complex process systems.
  • Strong communication, leadership, coaching, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to make sound operational decisions in high-pressure situations.
  • Experience working collaboratively with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Reliability, and Projects teams.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience with Nitric Acid and/or Ammonium Nitrate production.
  • Previous experience in a chemical, fertilizer, petrochemical, refining, or other continuous-process manufacturing environment.
  • Experience leading process safety initiatives, incident investigations, MOC, and PHA activities.
  • Background supporting capital projects, turnarounds, and major maintenance activities.
  • Experience developing operator training, qualification, and workforce development programs.
  • Strong understanding of continuous improvement, reliability, and operational excellence methodologies.
