MAIN PURPOSE

The Shift Supervisor oversees safe, efficient, and compliant plant operations, ensuring high-quality product output. They lead and manage a team of 12-14 Operating Technicians, maintain adherence to safety and environmental regulations, and serve as the Shift Incident Commander. Responsibilities include managing shift schedules, meeting production and quality objectives, and enforcing timely corrective actions when needed.

This position will play a key role in commissioning of a new “green field” production unit at the St. Gabriel Site. During the Commissioning Phase of the project, this role will report to the Commissioning Manager and will be responsible for safe and efficient commissioning and startup of the new asset.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Safety Leadership
  • Ensure compliance with all safety procedures and OSHA regulations.
  • Conduct regular safety audits, behavioral observations, and retraining as necessary.
  • Serve as the Initial Incident Commander during emergencies, ensuring crisis management and proper reporting.
  • Approve and audit Safe Work Permits and Lockout/Tagout procedures.
  • Report and investigate incidents, implementing corrective actions.
Operations Management
  • Supervise daily plant operations, ensuring production goals are met in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Oversee the achievement of production schedules
  • Troubleshoot operational issues, ensuring timely resolution.
  • Direct daily shift rounds, evaluating safety, equipment, and performance.
  • Ensure high standards of housekeeping and spill/leak prevention.
Team Leadership & Development
  • Manage a team of 12-14 Process Technicians, providing leadership, coaching, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Develop work schedules, manage attendance, and administer discipline as required.
  • Conduct regular shift meetings to communicate objectives and progress.
  • Promote team accountability and foster continuous improvement.
Compliance & Quality Assurance
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and ISO 9001 standards.
  • Direct the inspection and testing of in-process materials and finished products.
  • Investigate and resolve quality issues, ensuring corrective actions are taken.
Documentation & Reporting
  • Maintain accurate documentation for safety incidents, maintenance activities, and shift reports.
  • Prepare and publish regular status reports on unit performance and production goals.
Plant Commissioning
  • Develop detailed understanding of new plant processes
  • Lead training of technicians for assigned areas
  • Develop operating procedures
  • Perform Commissioning related inspections (module yard, in plant, etc.)
  • Safely commission and start up new asset.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, LANGUAGE, & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Associate degree in Process Technology (P-Tech) or equivalent, preferred.
  • Language(s) and level of proficiency: English – Proficient
Knowledge/Experience
  • 7+ years’ work experience in a chemical manufacturing environment
  • Must possess working knowledge of plant manufacturing operations or similar industrial setting.
  • Plant Commissioning experience a plus.
  • Must be willing and able to work a 12-hour rotating shift, including weekends, holidays, overtime, inclement weather and on-call as needed
  • Strong understanding of DCS, SAP, Microsoft operating systems and applications, preference.
  • Must possess excellent organizational and prioritization skills
  • Leadership, motivational and interpersonal skills are required
  • Must prioritize and execute tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Problem Solving - Works well in individual and group problem-solving situations
  • Must have a hands-on work ethic
  • Excellent communications skills and the ability to teach and train others
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving record that meets company standards and its insurers
  • Ability to obtain TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) as issued by TSA (Transportation Security Administration)
  • Ability to complete certification in Hazmat (forty (40) hour course + eight (8) hour annual refresher
  • Must be able to access all plant areas.
  • Use of PPE required in specific areas.
  • Regularly required to push, pull, bend, and perform long periods of standing and walking on cement foundations.
  • Climb stairs, straight ladders, and structures, etc.
  • Occasionally required to stoop and kneel.
  • Must be able to coordinate the movement of eyes, hands, feet, and fingers to operate tools and equipment.
  • Required to be medically certified as a respirator and medically fit for duty.
  • Work in all weather conditions, under emergency conditions, and for prolonged periods of time.
  • Available to work 12-hour rotating shifts, overtime, weekends, and holidays.
