Job summary

Roskam Foods, a leading contract manufacturer headquartered in Grand Rapids, MI, is seeking a Production Planner to develop and maintain master production schedules. You will coordinate with production, supply chain, and procurement to ensure timely materials and labor, and support the SIOP process with timely escalations.

The ideal candidate has 2+ years in production planning, strong analytical skills, and proficiency with ERP systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in production planning or scheduling in manufacturing.
  • Proficiency in scheduling software and ERP systems (SAP/Oracle/Microsoft Dynamics).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; excellent communication and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain daily and weekly master production schedules based on demand forecasts and available resources.
  • Coordinate with production, supply chain, and procurement to ensure timely material availability.
  • Support SIOP process through execution of the master production schedule and escalate large demand changes.
  • Monitor progress, address delays, and adjust schedules as needed.
  • Prepare reports on production efficiency, schedule adherence, and capacity utilization.

Position Description and Purpose:

Key Essential Functions/Duties:

  • Develop and maintain daily finite and weekly master production schedules based on demand forecasts, inventory levels, and resource availability.
  • Coordinate with production supervisors, supply chain, and procurement teams to ensure timely availability of materials and labor by leading weekly scheduling meetings and bi-weekly MPS reviews.
  • Support the SIOP process through the execution of the master production schedule, and escalating large demand changes.
  • Monitor production progress and adjust schedules to address delays, equipment issues, or changes in demand.
  • Manage subcomponent inventory.
  • Communicate schedule changes and updates to relevant stakeholders, including internal and external customers.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards in scheduling practices.
  • Ensure demand and the plan of work are accurately represented in the ERP/MRP systems to manage scheduling and reporting, and to reflect accurate material needs.
  • Prepare reports on production efficiency, schedule adherence, and capacity utilization.
  • Continuously evaluate and optimize production planning processes and systems to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and reliability, leveraging technology and best practices to drive improvements in optimization and supply chain performance.

Education/Experience/Skills/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 2+ years of experience in production planning or scheduling in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Proficiency in scheduling software and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. * Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with lean manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Advanced Excel skills and data analysis capabilities.
  • Familiarity with inventory management and logistics coordination.
