SMX is seeking a Production & Quality Engineer for the M&QE Division to support a classified program at Patuxent River Naval Air Station in Lexington Park, MD. The role is on-site with 30% travel to industry sites and no telework.

Responsibilities include production and quality support for early development, supplier evaluations, and risk assessments, ensuring producibility and quality planning are integrated into systems engineering processes.

Qualifications

  • BS/BA degree from an accredited college or university
  • 3+ years of engineering experience
  • Experience related directly to DoD/DOW systems
  • Industrial engineering background desired
  • MQ skills highly desired

  • Provide inputs in design reviews and program meetings on producibility and manufacturing.

Job description

SMX is seeking a Production & Quality Engineer for the M&QE Division, in NAVAIR’s Systems Acquisition Group. The candidate will provide research analysis and technical domain engineering support in M&QE for a classified program at Patuxent River Naval Air Station in Lexington Park, MD.

Location: On-site at NAS Patuxent River, MD and 30% travel to Industry sites. This role is not eligible for teleworking.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Provide support for Production & Quality of an early development classified program.
  • Examine suppliers and perform facilities evaluations assessing contractor design, development and manufacturing/quality planning activities, ensuring that production and producibility considerations are being appropriately integrated into the systems engineering process.
  • Conduct quality research and data analysis to provide support in the establishment of M&QE requirements and management of M&QE efforts through all acquisition phases, including capacity analysis to examine for scalability.
  • Evaluate design producibility, manufacturing planning and proposed or actual production/quality processes considering program affordability needs and with respect to established schedules and production plans.
  • Prepare technical risk assessments for decision meetings and related briefings.
  • Support the M&QE Division and IPT in planning and leading design, manufacturing and quality risk reduction efforts, producibility assessments and Production Readiness Reviews (PRRs).
  • Provide technical support for producibility and manufacturing discussions in design reviews and program/technical meetings and provide design and process oriented technical inputs.
  • Identify the causes of potential or actual manufacturing, producibility, or quality problems and recommend solutions to M&QE and IPT management via briefing or written correspondence.
  • Support the M&QE lead during the conduct of Physical Configuration Audits (PCAs), Manufacturing Readiness Assessments (MRAs), Quality System Evaluations (QSEs), Engineering Investigations (EIs), and other M&QE reviews. Support Systems Engineering Technical Reviews (SETR) events.
  • Conduct quality research and data analysis to assist M&QE Division leadership in improving M&QE products and capabilities so that they optimally support programs and fleet readiness.
Required Skills & Experience:
  • Clearance Required: Secret
  • US Citizenship is required for work on DoD contract
  • Technical or Scientific BS or BA degree from an accredited college or university
  • At least 3+ years of recent and relevant experience in an engineering position
  • Experience related directly to DOD/DOW systems
  • Demonstrated experience in an area of engineering expertise is required
  • Industrial Engineering background is desired
  • M&Q skills highly desired

The proposed salary for this position is: $80,000 — $125,000 USD
