Production Plant Manager
Metals USA -- Gregor Technologies Division is seeking a Production Plant Manager in Torrington, CT. Metals USA is a solid, growth oriented aluminum/stainless steel distribution center servicing the defense, aerospace and fabrication industries.
The Plant Manager is responsible to manage and develop the front-line supervisors and hourly employees. The Plant Manager will execute production safety, housekeeping, recruitment, orientation and training of all new hires as well as on-going training and development of entire production workforce. The Plant Manager is responsible for ensuring a preventive maintenance program and warehouse functions comply with Metals USA, Reliance Steel and Aluminum and all regulatory agencies.
Responsibilities:
- Initiates and executes production plan and process, clarifies and exceeds production goals. Creates production schedule and workflow duty assignments.
- Interacts with all departments to ensure optimal production and on-time delivery schedule.
- Recruits, hires, orient/trains and retains production front-line supervisors and employees. Leads an ongoing world-class production orientation program.
- Strives continually to improve manpower utilization to align with production process in order to positively impact revenue.
- Supervises the receipt of incoming material shipments, verifying that appropriate receipt and quality control inspections are completed in a timely manner and appropriate transactions are made to complete the receiving process.
- Ensures that materials in the warehouse are stored properly, inspected and processed via accepted material handling and warehousing principles. Supervises and participates in the physical inventory control process.
- Supervises staging of materials to support timely delivery of materials, prepare shipments of items as required and prepare materials for processing to scrap.
- Develops, implements and executes production tracking and quality control systems to analyze production quality control and capacity utilization.
- Strives continually to improve workplace safety awareness and achieves an injury-free work environment. Develops and implements a world-class safety culture.
- Maintains individual knowledge/skill and experience as required to ensure optimal production acumen.
- Regular and predictable attendance is required to perform the duties of a Plant Manager in the warehouse.
- Adheres to, explains and enforces all company policies and procedures paying special attention to safety regulations.
- Adheres to Reliance Steel and Aluminum Code of Conduct as well as customer confidentiality requirements.
- Executes a safe and injury-free environment; ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies.

- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Physical Demands:
Occupation requires physical activity more than 80% of the time (> 6.5 hours per day)
- Stand, walk, sit, talk , hear, use of hands and fingers, hand-eye coordination reach outward, reach above shoulder, climb, squat or kneel or bend
- Regularly required to work on multiple concurrent tasks with constant interruptions
- Lift, carry, push and/or pull 51 -- 100 lbs. with assistance
Other Physical Requirements:
Must wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Steel-toed boots
- Hard hats with chin strap; chin strap must be worn at all times while in the warehouse
- Protective eyewear
- Visual Acuity requires close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
- Hand protection
- Arm guards/sleeves
- Hearing protection if required by the hearing conservation program
Work Environment:
May be exposed to some of the following working conditions.
- Working both inside and outside of the warehouse facility
- Exposure to all weather conditions such as extreme heat, cold, precipitation and snow
- Moderate to loud noise levels
- Vibration
- Oils, dust, fumes and metallic particles
- Day shift primarily, but will be required to work all shifts as needed
Qualifications
- High School Graduate or Equivalent required with prior steel service management experience
- Bachelor Degree in Business Management preferred
- Must possess a minimum of 5 years as a supervisor in a production/manufacturing environment
- Should have prior experience with the metals service; preferably with carbon steel (tubing, beam and plate)
- Previous experience / broad understanding of safety systems and enforcement of safety rules and policies
- Ability to interface effectively with all departments to foster a success-oriented, deadline driven organization.
- Ability to effectively communicate with both oral & written communication to internal & external customers.
- Must have strong analytical, organizational and decision-making skills to execute and manage effectively.
- Ability to demonstrate professionalism and diplomacy to both internal & external customers.
- Ability to be flexible and adapt to all work flow & conditions as needed.
- Ability to work in a high volume, transaction driven environment.
- Must be highly motivated, results-oriented individual with the ability to lead and manage others.
- Must successfully complete OSHA 30 hour safety certification training.
- Must successfully complete the State of Connecticut Workplace Harassment Training
- Must successfully complete Reliance Steel and Aluminum's Reasonable Suspicion Training.
- Must successfully complete OSHA 7505-Introduction to Accident Investigation Certification Training
- Computer Literacy to include Microsoft Office Products: Office, Excel and ERP.
Metals USA offers a competitive salary $90,000 - $111,000 and benefits plus upward mobility professional growth.
