Job summary

Smurfit Westrock in Marion, NC is seeking a Production Planning Specialist to develop and manage daily manufacturing schedules that optimize efficiency and meet customer requirements. You will coordinate with manufacturing, customer service, and other departments to ensure timely ship dates and accurate order status.

The role requires 3+ years in manufacturing, strong organizational and communication skills, and proficiency with Word and Excel.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of work experience in a manufacturing environment or equivalent training.

• Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to explain technical procedures.

Responsibilities

• Develop daily manufacturing schedules to meet customer needs and optimize efficiency.
• Use forward/backward/batch scheduling to determine start dates, ship dates, and capacity adjustments; issue daily schedules and coordinate with departments.
• Prepare backlog and in-process reports; communicate order status to account representatives and customer service.
• Promote teamwork and adhere to safety, 5S, and SQF guidelines; report any food safety concerns.
• Willing to work flexible hours and travel as required.

Production Planning Specialist - Marion, NC

The Opportunity:

The Scheduler is responsible for producing a daily manufacturing schedule that will meet customer needs and optimize manufacturing efficiencies.

How You Will Impact Smurfit Westrock:

• Assigns ship dates - reviews machine backlogs, determines ship date, enters ship date in Amtech System, prints copy of order acknowledgement.
• Production Scheduling - utilizing forward scheduling - planning from the date resources become available to determine shipping date or due date, backward scheduling - planning from the due date or required-by date to determine start date and/or changes in capacity required, and batch scheduling, issues daily schedule by downloading jobs into schedule and making necessary adjustments, coordinates outside services, communicates with customer service regarding customer needs, communicates with manufacturing, prioritizes hold report and distributes to applicable departments, participates in customer visits, prepares weekly backlog report, prepares monthly work-in-process report, provides feedback for the daily shipment report, attends daily production meetings, and communicates order status to account representatives.
• Works proactively to promote teamwork at all levels of the company.
• Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures, safety rules, security procedures and instructions.
• Performs all duties according to established safety policy, including wearing all required PPEs to perform duties.
• This position will help keep department in pecs within all 5S and SQF guidelines, and immediately report any food safety concerns to management.
• Willing to work flexible hours as necessary.

What You Need to Succeed:

• High school diploma or G.E.D.
• 3-years work-related experience in a manufacturing environment and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Excellent organizational skills to include follow-up and accountability.
• Professional customer satisfaction skills needed to maintain positive external and internal relationships.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills to include effective listening. Must be able to understand and/or explain technical procedures.
• Proficiency in computer applications to include Microsoft Work and Excel.
• Ability to easily adapt to fluctuations in business cycles and workload.
• Attention to detail is critical to maintain accuracy and fulfill customer expectations.
• Some travel will be required.
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
• Ability to sit for long periods of time.
• Must be able to see/read a computer and work via telephone.
• Ability to climb stairs, step ladders, lift and move boxes.
