Job summary

WestRock Company in Hicksville, NY is seeking an HR Coordinator to handle administrative HR tasks including recordkeeping, I-9s, orientation, and benefits questions. You will screen candidates, arrange interviews, and maintain compliance with federal/state regulations.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree or 3+ years of related experience, strong written communication, and the ability to work with all levels of the organization. Overtime may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; or minimum three years' related experience and/or training.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate in writing.
  • Ability to relate effectively with others at all levels of the organization.
  • Good attendance and time management.
  • Computer literacy including maintaining databases, word processing, and spreadsheets using Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains up-to-date personnel files on each employee.
  • Manages I-9s; ensure they are complete, accurate, and updated as needed.
  • Creates and updates Excel spreadsheets as required.
  • Files confidential documents.
  • Conducts new hire orientation and prepares paperwork.
  • Screens job candidates and arranges job interviews.
  • Checks employment references.
  • Ensures drug tests and background checks are done per policy.
  • Answers benefits questions and assists with enrollment and insurance bills.
  • Handles safety and workers' compensation reporting.
  • Tracks HR metrics (new hires, temps, terminations).
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and company posting requirements.
  • Conducts exit interviews.
  • Orders employee uniforms.
  • Disseminates safety training materials and maintains training records.
  • Reports work-related injuries to insurance company.
  • Maintains OSHA recording software.
  • Assists with administering FML.

The Opportunity:

Responsible for the administrative functions of the plant's Human Resources department, including recordkeeping, maintaining organizational charts, creating and updating spreadsheets, orienting new employees, answering benefits questions, screening job candidates.

What You Need to Succeed:
  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; or minimum three years' related experience and/or training.
  • Ability to be discreet and adhere to strict confidentiality policies.
  • Ability to perform job duties with minimal supervision.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to communicate in writing.
  • Must be able to relate effectively with others at all levels of the organization.
  • Good attendance.
  • Mathematical ability to perform calculations required by the job.
  • Computer literacy including the ability to maintain basic databases, do word processing, create and maintain spreadsheets using Excel.
  • Well-organized and able to manage time efficiently.
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor at all times.
  • Professional appearance.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
  • Willing to work overtime as needed.
