Job summary

The Lighthouse for the Blind, Inc. in Seattle, WA is seeking a Production Planning Expediter to ensure materials and documentation support a stable, constraint-aware production schedule.

This role drives flow by prioritizing and coordinating raw material, internal work-center priorities, and outside processing to ensure goods are manufactured efficiently and on time. They are a key link between customers, production, quality, and suppliers to prevent shortages and resolve delays.

Qualifications

  • College degree preferred; may substitute 2+ years aerospace expediting/planning experience.
  • Strong understanding of ERP/MRP systems.
  • Ability to interpret bills-of-materials, routings, engineering drawings, and material certifications.
  • Familiarity with outside processing (heat treat, finish, machining).
  • Knowledge of AS9100 and ISO 9001 standards and manufacturing best practices.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, lookups, exception logic).
  • Strong problem-solving, prioritization, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Experience in a high-mix, fast-paced aerospace manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as point of contact for aerospace customers regarding delivery requests, schedules, and material status.
  • Maintain customer delivery portals/excel spreadsheets with accurate, timely updates.
  • Monitor ERP/MRP exceptions, including shortages and material discrepancies.
  • Develop reporting tools to streamline customer inquiries and internal visibility.
  • Track jobs through manufacturing to ensure on-time completion.
  • Prioritize work based on customer demand, expedite needs, and constraints.
  • Identify delays, shortages, and bottlenecks; escalate issues to supervisor.
  • Create and manage purchase orders for outside processing and track delivery commitments.
  • Monitor outside supplier on-time delivery and drive recovery plans for late orders.
  • Assist in creating/releasing work orders based on material availability and capacity.
  • Support daily standups with status updates, risks, and actions.
  • Maintain a daily Top Issues list with owners and due dates.
  • Contribute to lean initiatives and scheduling improvements.

Purpose

The Production Planning Expediter is responsible for ensuring that materials and documentation are ready to support a stable, constraint-aware production schedule. This role drives flow by prioritizing and coordinating raw material, internal work-center priorities, and outside processing to ensure goods are manufactured efficiently and on time. They are a key link between customers, production, quality, and suppliers to prevent shortages and resolve delays.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as point of contact for assigned aerospace customers regarding delivery requests, schedules, and material status.
  • Maintain customer delivery portals/excel spreadsheets. Provide accurate and timely updates.
  • Monitor ERP/MRP exceptions, including shortages, late operations, and material discrepancies.
  • Develop reporting tools to streamline customer inquiries and internal visibility.
  • Track jobs through manufacturing to ensure on-time completion.
  • Partners with supervisors to prioritize work based on customer demand, expedite needs, hot requirements, and constraints.
  • Identify delays, shortages, and manufacturing bottlenecks. Work with cross functional groups to resolve obstacles before they impact customer delivery. Escalate issues to supervisor.
  • Create and manage purchase orders for outside processing (heat treat, finish, machining) and track delivery commitments.
  • Monitor outside supplier on-time delivery, elevate risks, and drive recovery plans for late or at-risk purchase orders.
  • Assist in creating/releasing work orders to manufacturing based on material availability, capacity, and priority rules.
  • Support internal daily standup meetings with status updates, risks, and next actions.
  • Maintain a daily “Top Issues” list with owners, due dates, and recovery plans.
  • Contribute to lean initiatives and scheduling improvements.
Requirements
