Job summary

A.W. Chesterton Company is seeking a production-planning professional to coordinate fabrication component supply and work closely with Manufacturing and Materials Management.

The role emphasizes strong MRP knowledge, planning skills, and exceptional interpersonal communication to meet delivery targets. Requirements include a Bachelor's degree in manufacturing and 4–6 years of related experience; CPIM is strongly preferred.

Job description

Coordinate and manage all activities relating to the supply of fabricated components from high volume and engineered solutions fabrication cells. In conjunction with Manufacturing and Materials Management, make sound business decisions that positively impact the ability to meet fabricated component needs of our customers while satisfying quality, inventory, cost and delivery requirements. Requires exceptional interpersonal skills and strong MRP knowledge and system planning skills. Works as the primary contact with Customer Service Team to coordinate customer delivery requirements.

Job Model: On-Site

On-Site positions will require employees to work on-site for each of their scheduled shifts.

Responsibilities:
  • Consistent, regular and punctual attendance is an essential function of this job.
  • Working with the production/machine shop supervisor(s) manages the performance of assigned fabrication cells. Action issues which affect quality, inventory, cost and delivery requirements/performance.
  • From master schedule, review and evaluate planned orders (lot size, minimum balance and order policy codes and demand) through MRP. Take action when necessary.
  • Implement ordering policies, ABC classification, lot size, minimum balance, order policy codes, all cell related item master planning elements in conjunction with inventory management goals for all fabrication components as defined by Manufacturing Management.
  • Measure and report on assigned fabrication cells performance (inventory and on time delivery). Assess poor performing cells and take appropriate action in conjunction with Manufacturing Management and Production/machine shop supervisor(s).
  • Manage customer order backlog, status and maintenance for assigned Fabrication Cell(s).
  • Monitors daily order entry reports and communicates scheduling problems and concerns to Customer Service Team.
  • May facilitate daily morning customer service meetings.
  • Reviews and recommends the disposition of excess and obsolete inventory.
  • Issues daily/weekly production schedule. Adjusts and expedites as required to achieve required customer service levels.
  • Assists management in resolving problems concerning over shipments, shortages, engineering changes and cancellations of orders.
  • Prepares and provides various reports for management. Participates actively in departmental and cross functional meetings.
  • Audits bills of materials and routings and effect changes, regularly to resolve discrepancies. Reports the accuracy on a monthly basis.
  • Participates in new product launch meetings and schedules to ensure on time introduction.
  • Participates in cross-functional improvement teams as necessary.
  • Prepares, enters, releases and maintains shop orders for all assigned fabrication components into the business system.
  • Process non-conforming materials reports for defective material to ensure problems are resolved and replacement material is obtained.
  • Interface with Buyer/Planner Team, Customer Service Team, Final Assembly Cell(s), Quality Control, Supply/Demand Management and all groups in the business to ensure high levels of on time delivery and customer service. This includes make/buy decisions necessitated by shop constraints as needed
  • Develop capacity planning profiles and manage the balance between internal and external capacity.
Complexity of Duties:
  • Works independently. Must be capable of working independently and as a team player.
  • Must be able to set direction for daily work in the absence of the Dept. Supervisor.
  • Handles complex issues.
  • Must possess thorough understanding of materials, scheduling, inventory control and planning functions as well as a solid understanding of a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to provide solutions to a wide variety of problems and use sound judgement in decision-making processes. Failure to do so may cause delays in program schedules and result in the allocation of additional resources. Ability to quickly learn and understand new and upgraded business systems.
  • Ability to interact well at all levels of the organization. Ability to act as a liaison between Customer Service, Manufacturing and Engineering. Must be able to represent the organization regarding specific issues or projects as necessary.
Education and/or Experience:
  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent in manufacturing experience. CPIM certificate is strongly preferred.
  • 4 - 6 years of job related experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.

  • Ability to work under extreme pressure and manage a number of projects simultaneously.

Targeted pay range: $85,000 - $90,000 depending on experience
