Job description

Position Overview

We are seeking a proactive, deadline-driven Production Planner to develop and manage production schedules, coordinate material readiness, and support on-time delivery.

The ideal candidate has experience planning in a low-volume, high-mix manufacturing environment and understands how customer requirements, available capacity, raw materials, work orders, and outside processing affect production timelines.

This role requires strong ownership, independent judgment, and consistent follow-through. The successful candidate anticipates constraints, takes initiative to resolve issues, and works autonomously while communicating effectively with Production, Purchasing, Engineering, Quality, Shipping and Receiving, and customer-facing teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain realistic production schedules based on customer due dates, machine and labor capacity, setup and run times, material availability, tooling, and outside-processing requirements.
  • Review open sales orders, work orders, routings, and work-in-process (WIP) to establish priorities and achievable completion dates.
  • Create and release manufacturing work orders through the ERP system, confirming that materials, documentation, and required resources are ready.
  • Sequence jobs across work centers and shifts, accounting for shared resources, inspection, assembly, and downstream operations.
  • Coordinate with Purchasing and Receiving to confirm raw-material requirements, quantities, availability, and expected receipt dates.
  • Anticipate material shortages, capacity conflicts, and supplier delays; initiate follow-up and escalates risks with recommended recovery actions.
  • Monitor job progress and quantities at each process step, identify stalled work, and coordinate action to maintain material flow and delivery commitments.
  • Adjust schedules for changing priorities, equipment downtime, quality holds, rework, and supplier delays, clearly communicating the impact to affected teams.
  • Provide timely updates on production progress, shortages, backlog, and delivery risks, including action owners and expected resolution dates.
  • Maintain accurate ERP scheduling, work-order, routing, material-status, and completion information.
  • Participate in production meetings, communicate priorities across shifts, and follow action items through completion.
  • Improve planning processes, ERP data accuracy, and reporting to strengthen schedule reliability and on-time delivery.
Required Qualifications
  • Five or more years of production planning, scheduling, or related manufacturing experience.
  • Direct experience in a low-volume, high-mix or job-shop manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing workflows, routings, work centers, setup and run times, capacity planning, and production constraints.
  • Understanding of raw-material specifications, stock forms, quantities, and lead-time considerations.
  • Hands-on experience using an ERP/MRP system to create, release, schedule, and track manufacturing work orders.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel, data-analysis, documentation, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing deadlines, maintain accurate schedules, and follow through on commitments.
  • A proactive approach to identifying problems and driving resolution without constant supervision.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, including the ability to explain priorities, constraints, and delivery risks clearly.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with JobBOSS or a comparable manufacturing ERP system.
  • Certified in Planning and Inventory Management (CPIM) certification is strongly preferred, but not required.
  • Aerospace manufacturing experience.
  • Experience coordinating production across multiple shifts and a variety of work centers.
  • Experience establishing or improving planning processes, ERP data accuracy, and production-status reporting.

This is an on-site role requiring regular interaction with production-floor and office teams. The employee must follow applicable safety, quality, and information-security procedures while performing planning and coordination activities.
