Job summary

Avient Corporation in Ohio (Norwalk) seeks a Production Operator to set up and operate equipment to blend, mix, or transport chemicals for customer products. You will also handle machine maintenance, quality control, data recording, and safety compliance.

Shifts include 2nd: 1:00 PM–11:30 PM and 3rd: 7:00 PM–5:30 AM, Monday–Thursday. Starts at $20/hour with a $1/hour third-shift premium and a bi-annual bonus plan.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent training & experience.
  • Work experience in an industrial operations environment preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions or procedure manuals.
  • Mathematical skills: add, subtract, multiply and divide, use conversions and work with different units such as weight, volume, density, distance, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Sets up, starts and runs all machinery.
  • Weighs ingredients to meet recipe specification and inserts them into machinery, or ensures correct ingredients are delivered and pre‑blended materials are inserted into machinery.
  • Monitors production and equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation, troubleshooting equipment and processing issues.
  • Operates machinery to mix, extrude/discharge or handle materials.
  • May take samples for laboratory evaluation and provide batch‑adjustment instructions if needed.
  • Performs machine cleaning.
  • Documents work completed as required, including logs, data reports, procedures, etc.

Position Summary

As a Production Operator at Avient, you will set up and operate equipment to blend, mix, or transport chemicals that make up customer products, ensuring high quality and cost efficiency. You will also be responsible for machine maintenance, quality control, data recording, and supporting the company's vision and principles while adhering to safety and regulatory rules.

Hours

2nd shift: 1:00 PM – 11:30 PM (Monday through Thursday)

3rd shift: 7:00 PM – 5:30 AM (Monday night through Thursday night)

Compensation and Benefits

This role starts at $20.00 per hour for entry‑level candidates. Eligibility for step‑progression increases and a $1.00 per hour shift premium for third shift. Competitive compensation includes a bi‑annual bonus plan.

Physical Demands
  • Requires standing and sitting for extended periods, talking and listening.
  • Must be able to walk and use hands; occasionally requires bending, stooping, climbing ladders and stairs.
  • May occasionally lift, push or pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to frequently communicate and understand work instructions in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment with loud noise levels.
  • Must detect and respond to safety alarms.
  • Requires use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, hearing protection, hard hat and respiratory protection.
  • Exposure to outside weather conditions is routine; may be exposed to extreme heat and humidity or dust/fumes on occasion.
