Airgas in Salt Lake City, UT seeks a Production Operator and Backup Driver Trainee. You will work in a hands-on gas production environment, with CDL training provided if needed. Most days keep you home nightly while building high-value cylinder production skills and delivery experience.

Qualifications

• CDL License / Trainee Status: Must possess a valid CDL (Class A or B) OR be willing and eligible to complete company-provided driver training to obtain a CDL.
• Note: Driver Trainees must sign a training reimbursement agreement upon enrollment.
• Driving Record: Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and prior experience operating delivery vehicles (even non-CDL commercial vehicles) is preferred.
• Technical & Physical Ability: Comfortable working with high-pressure and cryogenic gases, reading technical gauges, and repeatedly lifting heavy cylinders and equipment.
• Forklift Experience: Ability to safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and material handling tools (certification provided on-site if needed).
• Safety First Mindset: Strong commitment to PPE compliance and strict adherence to workplace safety guidelines.

Responsibilities

• The majority of your workday will focus on specialized plant production and maintaining an efficient warehouse flow.
• Fill industrial, medical, and mixed gas cylinders safely using specialized equipment.
• Comply with DOT, OSHA, SAFECOR policies; consistently wear PPE when handling gases.
• Monitor gauges, scales, and testing equipment to ensure cylinder quality and safety.
• Manage cylinder inventory; load/unload delivery trucks using forklifts and pallet jacks.
• Deliver and pickup cylinders on scheduled routes; maintain accurate logs and records.

• Pay begins at $26/hour without CDL. After CDL has been obtained, an additional $2 increase to your hourly wage.

We are seeking a versatile Production Operator and Backup Driver to join our team. This role is designed for a professional who thrives in a technical, hands-on production environment but enjoys the variety of getting behind the wheel when needed. Most of your time will be dedicated to plant and high-pressure cylinder production. This is an ideal position for someone who prefers being home daily the vast majority of the time while building a specialized, high-value skill set in gas production.

If you do not currently hold a Commercial Driver's License (CDL), we will train you! We offer comprehensive driver training classes to help qualified candidates earn their CDL.

Key Responsibilities

The majority of your workday will focus on specialized plant production and maintaining an efficient warehouse flow:

• Precision Cylinder Filling: Safely fill industrial, medical, and mixed gas cylinders using specialized compression, temperature, and pressure methods.
• Technical Compliance & Safety: Execute all production duties in strict accordance with DOT, OSHA, and SAFECOR policies. Consistently utilize required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for handling high-pressure and cryogenic gases.
• Quality Control & Audits: Monitor gauges, scales, and testing equipment to ensure all cylinders meet strict purity and safety standards. Perform customer tank audits and hardware inspections.
• Warehouse Flow & Inventory: Manage cylinder inventory, organize materials, and safely load/unload delivery trucks using forklifts and pallet jacks to maintain a safe, efficient workspace.

Logistics & Driving Operations

• Local Routes: Deliver compressed gas cylinders, liquid cylinders, and hard goods to regional branches and customer sites on scheduled daily routes—ensuring you are home every night.
• Customer Service: Pick up empty cylinders from customer sites, record precise delivery and pickup logs, and maintain positive customer relationships.
• Vehicle Maintenance & Compliance: Perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and keep accurate driver logbooks in accordance with DOT rules.
