Job summary

AllStaff in Youngstown, OH is seeking a floor mechanic for a manufacturing environment. You will perform autonomous maintenance, operate cranes, support continuous improvement, and troubleshoot equipment to prevent downtime.

The role requires welding experience, ability to read safety and maintenance docs, math skills for measuring and adjustment, and willingness to work alternating shifts with overtime. Competitive hourly pay and benefits available.

Qualifications

• General mechanical skills with ability to use a torch and basic tools.
• Learn area-specific floor mechanic responsibilities in the assigned zone.
• Experience with stick welding is required or highly preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Basic math skills for measurements, calculations and unit conversions.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and troubleshoot mechanical equipment in a manufacturing setting.
• Operate overhead cranes, jib cranes and motorized vehicles.
• Participate in continuous improvement activities.
• Perform minor electrical and mechanical troubleshooting.
• Inspect equipment and report non-quality defects immediately.
• Minimize delays by tending to breakdowns and identifying hazards.

Schedule: 6am-6pm,6pm-6am - Mon-Thurs (Alternating Shifts)

Position Description

• Previous training and experience in a manufacturing environment
• Prefer experience with steel making and/or pipe mill operations
• Flexible to work any shift assigned
• Autonomous maintenance tasks i.e. grease, oil, check fluid levels, etc.
• Operate overhead cranes, jib cranes and motorized vehicles
• Participate in continuous improvement activities
• Perform minor troubleshooting of electrical/mechanical problems
• Have knowledge of the locations of all shutdown and lockout switches in assigned area
• Remove scrap from area
• Operate all floor stations in assigned area
• Make adjustments to equipment as directed by operators or supervisors
• Have knowledge of the functionality of all equipment in the pipe mill
• Have knowledge of all quality defects and their origin
• Inspect pipe and report immediately any non-quality
• Perform the essential duties of floor operations
• Minimize operational delays by proactively tending to breakdowns, making rounds in all work areas, and identifying potential hazards or malfunctioning equipment
• Thoroughly complete shift report and submit to Team Leader by end of each shift
• Execute all tooling and roll changes
• Make effective repairs to equipment as necessary within the scope of your expertise
• Operate and understand QA tools and parameters of measurements (micrometers, etc)
• Other duties may be assigned

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Must have general mechanical skills: can effectively use torch and tools to accomplish tasks
• Must learn all of the area-specific floor mechanic responsibilities
• Must have stick welding experience
• Language skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
• Mathematical skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
