Job description

Primary Function:

The Utility position supports the Production Department by completing daily tasks assigned by the Production Foreman. Tasks vary based on operational needs and vacancies. This is an Operator 1 (Entry) position that involves training for future coverage of Operator 2 roles, including Filler Driver, Liner Driver, Production Loader, 5H, and Lab Tester.

Basic Requirements:

Safety

• Understand and follow all plant safety rules.
• Participate actively in safety programs and be aware of potential hazards in your work area.

Operations

• Perform duties as assigned by supervisors.
• Work overtime as required; attendance is essential.
• Remain on shift until relieved, supporting continuous operation.

Job Procedures and Requirements:

Support 5H

• Assist Winder Operator with taping rolls and inserting core plugs.
• Support reel turn-ups, move cores and hoppers with Fork Truck, and clean the Paper Machine Basement with a Bobcat.

Filler Driver Coverage

• Learn bale types in the Filler Plant and operate equipment like Squeeze Truck and Linde Fork Truck for loading and relocation tasks.

Liner Driver Coverage

• Support plant start-ups/shutdowns, assist operators, and learn bale types such as FLY, SIG, SWL, Pie-Plate. Operate Squeeze Truck and Linde Truck as needed.

Production Loader Coverage

• Identify paper grades and roll widths, relocate and stack rolls, and support winding operations.

Support Lab Tester

• Cut paper samples, learn MDIS basics.

Other Procedures & Training

• Perform wash-ups, fire watch, clean-up, inspections, and support housekeeping and 5S initiatives.
• Follow lockout procedures, review Visual Work Instructions, and complete Operator 2 training for specific roles.

Notes:

The first week involves shadowing with subsequent mobile equipment training. Once trained, the Utility will be assigned to a Production Crew and continue training for Operator 2 roles.

Qualifications:

• Ability to perform physical requirements.
• Safe operation of Fork Truck, Squeeze Truck, Clamp Truck, and Bobcat; valid driver’s license required.
• Commitment to safety, results-oriented, self-starter, with good multitasking skills.
• No recent performance or attendance issues.
