Job description

Red Dot Corporation, the leading producer of premium mobile HVAC units and components for heavy-duty commercial and military vehicles, is recruiting for the following position:
FLSA: Non-Exempt
Production Operative - Final Assembly/Fabrication
Shift: Days, Monday - Thursday 10-hour shifts 6:30 AM to 5:15 PM
Compensation: $20.50 per hour
Summary Description:

Under the general supervision and direction of the Area Team Leader, the Production Operative performs hands-on tasks within assigned manufacturing work centers. While operatives may be cross-trained for multiple departments, position is assigned to the Final Assembly and Core Department, where the employee will be responsible for the assembly, brazing, and testing of heater cores, evaporators, and condensers. The role must be performed in alignment with company procedures, safety standards, and quality requirements. Assignments may vary based on production needs.

Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
  • Completes tasks associated with Final Assembly or Fabrication job descriptions as assigned; Responsible for performing brazing operations to join metal parts according to specifications, using a torch method while ensuring strong, clean, and precise joints.
  • Practice appropriate safety, security and environmental procedures. Handle relevant equipment with care, being concerned with safety and security. Immediately report safety concerns to Supervisor/Lead.
  • Exercise care of all tools, machines and equipment through proper use and storage.
  • Maintain a clean work area, including daily sweeping of floors, racking of tools, dies, guides and related equipment.
  • With training, guidance, and time management, work on pace to meet production schedules.
  • Ability to multi-task, work in a fast-paced environment, and to be cross-trained and work in other areas as assigned.
  • Provide regular updates to direct supervisor regarding progress and non-routine occurrences that may disrupt work schedule.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Department-Specific Duties – Core Department
  • Assemble heater cores, evaporators, and condensers using fixtures, jigs, and precision tools.
  • Perform brazing operations using a torch or oven/furnace to join copper or aluminum parts, ensuring clean, leak‑free joints
  • Conduct water testing on completed units using pressurized systems to check for leaks, recording results accurately.
  • Interpret work orders, blueprints, and production specifications to verify correct dimensions, tolerances, and materials.
  • Inspect brazed and assembled components for quality, ensuring alignment, proper joint flow, and product integrity.
  • Safely handle and store gases and brazing materials; follow all PPE and ventilation requirements.
  • Monitor and maintain brazing equipment, reporting issues or wear to the supervisor for maintenance or calibration.
  • Perform minor repairs or rework on parts that do not meet quality standards, as directed.
  • Track material use, scrap, and output to ensure proper reporting and productivity.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing processes and equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, work instructions, and SOPs.
  • Familiarity with quality control standards and visual/mechanical inspection techniques.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and proficiency with hand and power tools.
  • Basic computer and data entry skills for tracking production activities.
  • Strong attention to detail, time management, and ability to work both independently and within a team.
  • Good communication skills for reporting issues and following directions.
  • Dependability and consistent attendance required.
  • Commitment to safety, product quality, and continuous improvement.
Requirements
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Prior manufacturing or production experience preferred.
  • Ability to interpret technical documents and follow instructions accurately.
  • Experience with departmental equipment or processes is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and/or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Must have the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time, up to 10-12 hours per day
  • The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Sufficient manual dexterity and motor control to use common drafting implements and calculators.
