Job summary

Black Cape in Bethesda, MD is seeking a Production Operations (ProdOps) Engineer for shift work to support mission-critical cloud systems. The role requires an active TS/SCI clearance and on-site work.

You will monitor, deploy updates, scale components, and collaborate with multiple teams to maintain 24/7 operations. Expect rigorous security controls and collaboration with federal customers.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain a mission-critical cloud-based system in multiple environments.
• Monitor service state globally, resolve outages, and escalate when necessary.
• Deploy latest code and security updates to cloud-based systems.
• Make system changes to ensure configurations work in a clustered deployment environment.
• Provide recommendations on scaling components of the technology stack.
• Support engineering in benchmarking system components.
• Positions available across all shifts; support 24/7 operations including weekends and holidays.

Job description

Title: Production Operations (ProdOps) Engineer - Shift Work (Flexible)

Location: Bethesda, MD

Onsite: Expected to go onsite into a SCIF 5 days per week

Clearance: TS/SCI (must have an active TS/SCI clearance and be willing to obtain a CI Poly)

Citizenship: Must have US citizenship or a security clearance issued by a US Government customer.

Position Objectives

• Operate and maintain a mission‑critical cloud‑based system in multiple environments.
• Monitor the state of services and systems used globally, resolve outages and problems as they arise and escalating when necessary.
• Deploy the latest code and security updates to cloud‑based systems.
• Make system changes to ensure all configurations work in a clustered deployment environment.
• Provide recommendations and a pathway on how to scale each component of a given technology (e.g., how to scale processing and storage across a complex technology product).
• Support the engineering team in benchmarking components of the system.
• Positions available across all shifts (1st, 2nd, and 3rd); flexibility preferred to support 24/7 operations including weekends and holidays.

Required Technical Skills (MUST HAVES)

• TS/SCI clearance and ability to obtain Privileged User Access (PUA) on customer systems.
• Experience working in classified environments; awareness of technical limitations within those environments.
• Familiarity and experience negotiating complex accreditation and security requirements; strong preference for candidates with experience of the accreditation and RMF process.
• Experience operating and maintaining systems deployed to Linux‑based environments.
• Experience with cloud environments (AWS, OpenShift, or Kubernetes).
• Experience with cloud provisioning tools such as Helm or AWS CloudFormation.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work with multiple teams to accomplish mission goals.
• Must have an active Security+ or CISSP certificate and one technical certificate such as CKAD or an AWS certification.

Preferred Technical Skills (NICE TO HAVES)

• Experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible or SaltStack.
• Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins or GitLab CI.
• Experience with Python and bash scripting to automate tasks.
• Experience working with S3‑compatible data stores (AWS S3, Azure Blob, MinIO).
• Experience working with document storage solutions (Elasticsearch, Mongo).
• Experience working with streaming data and automation systems such as Kafka, NiFi, RabbitMQ, or similar.
• Experience designing highly scalable, fail‑safe, cloud native systems to support data processing pipelines.
