Baltimore County is hiring for a maintenance role within the Department of Public Works, Bureau of Solid Waste Management. The position involves performing general maintenance tasks, operating machinery, and ensuring equipment functionality. Ideal candidates should have relevant experience and certifications and be prepared for physical labor in diverse environmental conditions.
Regular Schedule: 39 hours per week
A Non-Merit vacancy exists in the Department of Public Works, Bureau of Solid Waste Management.
Non-Merit positions are not classified within the Baltimore County Government Classification and Compensation Plan.
A list of eligible applicants will be established based on the examination as outlined below.
Current and future vacancies occurring in any Office or Department of Baltimore County General Government may be filled from the list of eligible applicants.

Under the guidance of senior maintenance staff, perform general maintenance and repair to single stream system.

Possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a non-commercial, class C Maryland driver's license.
PLUS
Two years' experience in maintenance work.
(Training related to single stream system operation and maintenance may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.)

Employees in this classification are designated as Emergency/Essential and may be required to work overtime with little or no advance notice.
Physical and Environmental Conditions
The work of this classification entails the performance of heavy physical labor including climbing, bending, stooping, lifting and carrying heavy objects, and the operation of vehicles, tools, and equipment. This position requires the agility to frequently go up and down stairs and climb on and off of equipment. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Some work requires exposure to potentially hazardous conditions such as exposure to heat, cold, rain, snow, mud, ice, and airborne particles including dust.
Medical Examination and Employment Background Investigation
Applicants selected for employment with Baltimore County must successfully complete a physical examination, drug screening and employment investigation, including, but not limited to a criminal background, education certification and fingerprint checks.
