Repairs, modifies, and upgrades rail cars. Rebuilds car components: bolsters, side framers, hitch heads, and box car doors. Welds, fabricates, and uses torch and carbon arc to cut. Performs mechanical labor.
PRODUCTION MECHANIC
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Repairs, modifies, and upgrades rail cars according to blueprints and specifications. Maintains production machinery and equipment using hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments. Inspects machines and equipment to locate causes of trouble, measures, cuts, and threads pipes, replaces airlines, assembles sub-assemblies, and repairs broken parts using hand tools and welding equipment.
Standing, hearing, and seeing for 10 hours; handling for 6 hours; walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and fingering for 5 hours; reaching below waist, twisting, and feeling for 2 hours; sitting, climbing, balancing, crawling, reaching overhead, and talking for 1 hour. Frequent activities include standing, kneeling, stretching, reaching, gripping, and bending. Occasional activities include sitting, crawling, and twisting while sitting.
Lifting car parts from 1-50 lbs for 10 hours (frequently 10-25 lbs, regularly 25-50 lbs). Pushing and pulling with various weights. Indoor and outdoor work, exposure to heat, humidity, heights, machinery, fumes, odors, dust, gases, noise, hot/cold temperatures, oil, grease, vibrations, and working alone.
10-hour shifts; Monday through Thursday with occasional overtime on Fridays.
Reports to line supervisor or work group supervisor.
Rate of Pay: $27.85 per hour
