Description

Position Summary: Ag Express Electronics is seeking a Production Materials Coordinator - Wire Harness who will be responsible for preparing and processing wire and cable materials to support harness production. This role requires precision in measuring, cutting, and stripping wire, as well as maintaining accurate inventory levels. The technician will work with both manual and automated tools to ensure high-quality production while maintaining a clean and organized work environment. This position is located at our Des Moines, Iowa location.

Key Responsibilities:

Wire Preparation & Job Kitting

  1. Assemble and organize complete parts kits for each harness job, including wire, connectors, terminals, and components.
  2. Identify and differentiate wire colors and gauge sizes according to specifications.
  3. Utilize manual and automated measuring, cutting, and stripping equipment to process wire accurately.
  4. Cut and strip wire according to approved schematics, blueprints, and production orders.
  5. Inspect wire and cable for quality, ensuring compliance with production standards.
  6. Deliver fully prepped kits to the harness assembly area to ensure uninterrupted assembly workflow.
  7. Coordinate closely with the production schedule to prepare wire and parts in advance of job start times.

Inventory Management & Documentation

  1. Monitor and maintain inventory levels of wire, cable, and components, communicating shortages or discrepancies to purchasing and team leaders.
  2. Accurately complete build documentation, work orders, and inventory logs.
  3. Assist in tracking material usage and ensuring stock issued off and replenished as needed.

Equipment Maintenance & Work Area Organization

  1. Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of wire processing equipment.
  2. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area in compliance with company standards.
  3. Identify and report any equipment malfunctions or safety concerns to the appropriate personnel.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  1. Work closely with the Harness Production Manager and production team to meet deadlines and quality expectations.
  2. Provide input on process improvements and efficiency enhancements in wire processing operations.
  3. Support a smooth handoff between harness kitting and assembly by anticipating the needs of harness techs.
  4. Adapt to evolving production needs in a fast-paced environment with changing production priorities.
Skills and Qualifications:
  1. Ability to interpret and work from cable wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical documents.
  2. Strong math and measurement skills for accurate wire processing.
  3. Ability to adapt to a dynamic, fast-paced production environment.
  4. Ability to work independently and as part of a team and adapt quickly in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  5. Proven communication skills, both verbal and written, necessary for effective collaboration with coworkers and managers.
  6. Meticulous attention to detail necessary for quality control with demonstrated ability to use good judgment in demanding situations.
  7. Knowledge of various wire harness tools is beneficial, including manual and pneumatic tools.
  8. Positive approach to navigating challenges with a solutions-oriented approach, ensuring customer satisfaction.
Education and Experience:
  1. Education: High school diploma or GED required.
  2. Experience: Prior experience in wire harness and cabling fabrication is beneficial.
  3. Computer Skills: Ability to use standard office equipment and computer applications such as MS 365.
Physical Requirements:
  1. Manual Dexterity: Ability to manipulate small components, connectors, and wires with precision and accuracy during the assembly and testing of electrical systems.
  2. Lifting and Carrying: Occasionally, the role may involve lifting and carrying equipment, tools, or materials weighing up to a certain limit.
  3. Standing and Walking: Some tasks may require standing and walking around the facility for limited periods of time, such as collaborating with coworkers and testing certain equipment.
  4. Visual Acuity: Good eyesight and visual acuity are important for reading technical diagrams, inspecting electrical components, and identifying small details during the repair and testing process.
  5. Sitting for Extended Periods: Much of the work may be conducted at a desk or workstation, requiring the ability to sit for extended periods.
  6. Repetitive Motion: Some tasks, electronic assembly or testing, may involve repetitive motions of the hands, arms, or fingers. Ergonomic practices should be followed to minimize the risk of repetitive strain injuries.
  7. Safety Awareness: Awareness of and adherence to safety protocols and procedures, including ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) protocols, is essential when navigating the organization’s facilities to ensure compliance and minimize the risk of workplace hazards or accidents.
