Position Overview:

The Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic is currently accepting applications for the position of Production Manager. This is a contracted role for between 6-10 orchestral concert productions per year, in Scranton and Wilkes-Barre, PA. Collaborating closely with the Music Director, Executive Director, Personnel Manager, musicians, and staff, the Production Manager will be responsible for ensuring successful and efficiently managed live performances.

Responsibilities Include:

• Create and distribute seating charts for each performance
• Write and distribute production notes for each concert
• Coordinate load-in and load-out times with each concert venue
• Load and transport all Philharmonic equipment needed for each concert
• Set up chairs, music stands, podium, risers, and plexiglass horn and drum shields
• Organize dressing room spaces for the conductor, musicians, and guest artists
• Always be available during rehearsals to assist musicians with lighting, seating, etc.
• Manage the performance riders of all guest artists
• Call the concerts from backstage
• Transport Philharmonic equipment to and from storage facilities

Qualifications:

• At least 2-5 years of prior stage production experience required
• Prior experience required in at least several of the following domains: stage setup, lighting, audio production, rigging, production equipment, projections, facilities, multimedia production, labor union practices and procedures
• Applicants should be prompt, organized, and comfortable in fast-paced environments, and able to work both independently and collaboratively
• Symphony orchestra production experience preferred
• Knowledge of orchestral instruments and repertoire preferred

Geography:

Priority will be given to applicants currently residing in Northeastern Pennsylvania, and especially to current members of IATSE Local 329 (Scranton) and Local 82 (Wilkes-Barre). Individuals residing elsewhere in the Mid-Atlantic region (PA, NJ, NY, CT, DE, MD), including from other IATSE locals, are encouraged to apply as well. Non-union applicants may apply, but would be expected to join an IATSE local upon acceptance of the position.

This is a contracted position. Payment will be $1,000 for each concert production. Each production will be 1-4 days in duration on-site in the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre area, consisting of 1-2 concerts, 1-4 rehearsals, and associated setup and take-down time, plus off-site (remote) production planning in the weeks ahead of each performance. Rates may be negotiable only for applicants with prior experience in symphony orchestra production. For exceptional applicants outside of Northeastern Pennsylvania, housing provided during each concert period may be considered.

Timing:

The NEPA Philharmonic is seeking to promptly fill this position. The successful applicant should plan to join as a probationary Assistant Production Manager during an upcoming concert production on July 3rd-4th, 2025 (2 rehearsals & 2 concerts); payment would be $500 for this production set. If the probationary period is successful, the individual would be elevated to solo Production Manager at the $1,000 per series rate beginning in September 2025.
