Job summary

Devil's Canyon Brewing Co. in San Carlos, CA, is seeking a Production Manager/Head Brewer to oversee all brewery production on-site. You will manage brewing schedules, supervise cellar and packaging operations, and ensure consistency and quality across beer styles.

Qualifications

• Experience in brewing operations including recipe development and fermentation management.

• Knowledge of quality control, sensory evaluation, and beer stability and consistency.
• Proficient in equipment maintenance; familiar with safety, sanitation, and compliance.

• Excellent organizational and communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
• Prior head brewer/production manager experience strongly preferred.
• Formal brewing education or certification is a plus.
• Ability to perform the physical requirements of brewery work (lifting, standing, temperature variations).

Role Description

The Production Manager/Head Brewer is a full-time, on-site role based in San Carlos, CA, responsible for overseeing all aspects of brewery production. This position manages brewing schedules, supervises cellar and packaging operations, and ensures consistency and quality across all beer styles. Day-to-day tasks include developing and refining recipes, monitoring fermentation and conditioning, performing quality control checks, and maintaining brewing, cellar, and packaging equipment. The role also involves managing production staff, coordinating raw material ordering and inventory, and aligning production output with sales and event needs. The Production Manager/Head Brewer collaborates with leadership on production planning, supports sustainability initiatives, and ensures compliance with safety and sanitation standards.

• Demonstrated experience in brewing operations, including recipe development, brewhouse operation, and fermentation management.
• Background in production planning, workflow optimization, and scheduling in a brewery or beverage manufacturing environment.
• Strong leadership and team management skills, with experience training, supervising, and mentoring staff.
• Knowledge of quality control practices, sensory evaluation, and beer stability and consistency standards.
• Proficiency in equipment maintenance fundamentals and familiarity with brewery safety, sanitation, and compliance requirements.
• Ability to manage inventory, coordinate with suppliers, and maintain accurate production and reporting documentation.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across operations, events, and sales teams.
• Prior experience as a head brewer, lead brewer, or production manager in a commercial brewery strongly preferred.
• Formal brewing education or certification (e.g., brewing school, professional courses) is a plus.
