Job summary

Vacuum Process Engineering, Inc. is seeking a Production Manager to oversee the entire manufacturing cycle for our growing microchannel heat exchanger operation, VPE Thermal. You will execute production schedules, ensure product quality, enforce safety, and supervise staff to bridge strategic goals with daily execution.

You will lead capacity challenges and rising demand while promoting a culture of safety, continuous improvement, and open communication across departments.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years in high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • 5+ years leading a production team of 15+ people; hiring, terminations, evaluations, KPIs.
  • Proven ISO 9001 experience and compliance.
  • Experience using Gantt or progress charts.
  • Strong root-cause analysis, 5S, continuous improvement, Lean.
  • Ability to drive change with empathy and open communication.

Responsibilities

  • Develop or implement production tracking; analyze reports to spot problems.
  • Collaborate with accounting/purchasing to meet budgets and optimize resources.
  • Coordinate with PMs, Engineering, and leadership to meet OTD and quality standards.
  • Manage staff performance: expectations, coaching, discipline, and development.
  • Adhere to schedules; set priorities; monitor progress; adjust plans as needed.
  • Maintain safe, clean environment; ensure EHS/OSHA compliance including PPE.
  • Staff development; hiring decisions; resolve personnel issues.
  • Direct/coordinate production, processing, distribution activities.
  • Review schedules to determine inventory and staffing needs within budgets.

Job description

The Production Manager oversees the entire manufacturing cycle for a growing Microchannel Heat Exchanger manufacturer, VPE Thermal. Their essential duties include executing production schedules, ensuring product quality, enforcing safety regulations, and supervising staff. They act as the bridge between strategic goals and daily execution. The Production manager will also possess the necessary skills to build and oversee the department as it transitions through increasing equipment and personnel capacity challenges and increasing customer demand.

Pay Range: 100-125k
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop or implement production tracking systems, analyzing production, maintenance, or other operational reports to detect production problems.
  • Work with accounting and purchasing to stay within determined budgets, approve expenditures for supplies and materials, ensuring that materials, labor, or equipment are used efficiently to meet production targets.
  • Works with Program Managers, Engineering, Executive Leadership and other departments as necessary to ensure OTD is safely and according to quality standards.
  • Accomplishes manufacturing staff results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Completes production plan by adhering to production schedule; accomplishing work results; establishing priorities; monitoring progress; revising schedules; resolving problems; reporting results of the processing flow on shift production summaries.
  • Maintains safe and clean work environment by educating and directing personnel on the use of all control points, equipment, and resources; maintaining compliance EHS and with OSHA safety standards including, but not limited to, lockout tagout, machine guarding and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Maintains staff by selecting, evaluating and training employees, developing personal growth opportunities. Resolves personnel problems by analyzing data; investigating issues; identifying solutions; recommending action such as discipline, hiring, and terminations.
  • Direct or coordinate production, processing, distribution, or marketing activities of industrial organizations.
  • Review processing schedules or production orders to make decisions concerning inventory requirements, staffing requirements, work procedures, or duty assignments, considering budgetary limitations and time constraints.
Supervisory Responsibilities:

Directly supervises Production Supervisor and Indirectly supervises Production Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or similar degree from a four-year college or university

Required Qualifications:

10 plus years’ experience working in high volume manufacturing

5 plus years’ experience previously supervising a Production team of over 15 subordinates including hiring, terminations, evaluations, disciplinary actions, and establishing KPIs

Proven experience with ISO 9001

Must have experience using Gantt or Progress charts

Proven experience with Root Cause Analysis, 5s principals, continuous improvement, and Lean manufacturing

Must be able to drive change and motivating subordinate to meet deadlines while also leading with empathy and maintaining a culture of open communication and respect

Desired Qualifications:

ASME codes and standards

External Audit experience with ISO 9001

Strong experience with ERP systems; JobBoss is preferred

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills

MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and outlook experience. Intermediate Excel is preferred (Formulas, Harts, Pivot Tables).
