Job summary

Safariland in Pittsfield, MA is seeking a production associate to perform line assembly tasks, label products, and support quality control to meet ship dates.

The role covers working at different workstations, following safety rules, and participating in kaizen activities to improve productivity and quality. Applicants should have 2–3 years of related experience or equivalent education and be able to use hand tools and read simple instructions.

OVERVIEW

Perform all associated tasks included in line assembly operations to mass-produce products. To work efficiently and safely, while maintaining target range on the following KPI's: discrepancies, accidents, repairs, reworks, material yield, desired ship dates and inventory cycle counts.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Work at different workstations as production needs require
  • Assemble and label products for stock as needed
  • Assist Quality Control in production
  • Verify sales order to assembled parts and/or finished product
  • Adhere product logos and serial numbers on products properly
  • Steel cutting with band saw or other shop equipment
  • Composite layup
  • Fabric cutting to support ballistic composite and blanket production
  • Observe all safety regulations and procedures of the facility
  • Assist with keeping production area clean and organized
  • Participate in kaizen activities to achieve productivity and quality improvements
  • Train associates as required
  • Perform support operations, including, but not limited to Crane Operator, Forklift Operator and Team Lead, Inventory, Receiving and/or Planning Backup
  • Notify supervisor of non-conforming product
  • Notify supervisor of unsafe equipment or work practices
  • Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Two to 3 years related experience and or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • High School Diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • General knowledge in the use of hand tools and shop operations
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos
  • Ability to write simple correspondence
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Must work well with others and be a team member
  • Ability to accept direction from a peer.
  • Standing, sitting, lifting 40 pounds, use of equipment, manual and powered.
