Job description

Drive Operational Excellence in a Sustainability-Focused Packaging Plant

At Pratt Industries, sustainability and performance go hand in hand. As the Production Excellence Manager (reporting to the Plant Manager), you’ll stay close to the production floor to lead people, processes, and performance—raising quality, throughput, and reliability while mentoring the next generation of supervisors.

Imagine this challenge

You arrive to a review of overnight KPIs: output, scrap, downtime, and shipments. You meet with your leads, align on constraints, redeploy resources, and launch countermeasures. By midday, you’re coaching a new supervisor through structured problem-solving; in the afternoon, you’re auditing a GMP/SOP adherence point and closing the loop on a safety observation. Throughout, you’re translating division strategy into actionable steps for your team.

What you will own
  • Production performance that consistently meets customer expectations for quality, flexibility, and on-time shipping.
  • Capacity gains, waste and cost reduction, and asset utilization improvements.
  • Operational systems that set standards, track KPIs, and continuously optimize productivity, quality, and safety.
  • Talent pipeline: recruiting, training, and developing plant staff with a focus on leadership readiness.
  • Regular communication cadences to share company goals, initiatives, and progress.
  • Strategic participation in plant/company processes, including expense management and cost-avoidance programs.
  • Customer-centric culture building—internally and externally.
  • Turning departmental vision into specific actions with owners and due dates.
Safety as a strategy
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and plant safety protocols (e.g., lockout tag out) and partner with the Safety Team/Committee.
  • Model safe behaviors and hold leaders accountable to clear safety expectations.
  • Continuously elevate safety through proactive improvements across operations.
Experience and skills you bring
  • Bachelor’s in business, engineering, or related field preferred, or equivalent experience.
  • 3–5+ years in manufacturing; exposure to extrusion, plastic bag converting, or paper converting is advantageous.
  • Structured problem-solver with a track record of results and minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communicator across all levels; strong written and oral skills.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency and aptitude for learning new platforms.
  • People leader who coaches, builds teams, and makes sound decisions; sets expectations and enforces accountability.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, strategic planning, resource allocation, and HR practices.
  • Ability to interpret complex documents and statistics; capable of requesting/building computer-generated performance reports.
  • Exceptional organization, prioritization, and time management.
Core competencies
  • Equipment capability translation into efficient operations and effective training.
  • Cost analysis acumen to reduce overall expense and spotlight improvement areas.
  • Budget development/compliance/analysis; quality systems and standards.
  • Regulatory literacy including wage and hour, environmental and waste minimization, company policies, and personnel requirements (OSHA, DEQ, EEO).
Cognitive abilities
  • Read/interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations.
  • Write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals; present information to employees, management, clients, customers, and the public.
  • Comfort with mathematics and numerical problem-solving.
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions; interpret complex written and diagrammed technical guidance.
Physical and environmental conditions

Expect regular talking/hearing, frequent standing/walking/sitting, and occasional use of hands to finger, handle, or feel; reaching; climbing/balancing; stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs. Vision needs include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

Work includes exposure to moving mechanical parts; frequent wet/humid conditions; occasional work at heights, fumes/airborne particles, and vibration. Noise is generally loud.
