Job summary

Ontrac Solutions is seeking a Production Engineer (IC2) to support a large-scale OS modernization and infrastructure hardening program. The role blends Python tooling, RPM packaging, and CI/CD hardening with hands-on runbooks, service onboarding, and Tier-2 break/fix work.

You will collaborate with the client’s SRE organization and internal teams from definition to delivery. Strong Linux, automation, and packaging experience are essential, with a focus on migration, testing, and ship-ready code.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience with hands-on Python.
• Hands-on experience with enterprise Linux at fleet scale and OS upgrade programs (RHEL7 → EL8/EL9).
• Experience building RPM packages to replace legacy configuration and large-scale packaging migrations (Chef → CINC).
• Independent bug ownership: triage, reproduce, fix, test, and ship without hand-holding.
• Harden CI/CD pipelines, observability frameworks, and rollout/rollback mechanisms for legacy-to-modern transitions.
• Tier-2 operational support experience with follow-the-sun coverage and incident response.
• Experience onboarding services to new monitoring/logging stacks.
• Automation of repetitive ops and thorough documentation of procedures.
• Location in United States and work authorization.

Responsibilities

• Drive transition of legacy systems to modern enterprise Linux environments (RHEL7 → EL8/EL9).
• Build and maintain RPM packages; migrate packaging from Chef to CINC.
• Develop automated runbooks for repeatable migrations and service onboarding.
• Triage and resolve migration bugs end-to-end with verified fixes.
• Transition monitoring to modern stack (Chronosphere/Prometheus/Grafana) and Splunk integrations.
• Onboard services to new monitoring/logging stacks with metrics, dashboards and alerts.
• Harden observability and pipelines to surface regressions before users are affected.
• Harden CI/CD pipelines and design rollback mechanisms for large fleet changes.
• Provide Tier-2 operational support and incident response with client SRE teams.
• Assist developers during cloud migrations and document procedures.
