Job summary

Ontrac Solutions is seeking a high-aptitude Production Engineer (IC2) to support a large-scale enterprise OS modernization and infrastructure hardening program. This role blends Python tooling, RPM packaging, and CI/CD with hands-on runbooks and service onboarding, working with the client's SRE organization and internal teams.

Candidates should have 3+ years of software engineering with Python, strong Linux fleet experience, and experience in packaging migrations (Chef to CINC) and observability

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience with strong Python
• Hands-on experience with enterprise Linux fleets and major OS upgrades (e.g., RHEL7→EL8/EL9)
• Experience building RPM packages and handling dependencies/versioning
• Independent bug ownership: triage, reproduce, fix, test, ship
• Hardening CI/CD pipelines and rollout/rollback for large migrations
• Tier-2 on-call support with incident response on existing platforms
• Service onboarding to new monitoring/logging stacks
• Automation and documentation of repeatable ops processes

Responsibilities

• Drive legacy-to-modern Linux transitions (RHEL7→EL8/EL9)
• Build and maintain RPM packages and migrate packaging from Chef to CINC
• Create automated runbooks for repeatable migrations
• Triage and resolve migration bugs end-to-end
