Job summary

Sun Chemical in Valparaiso, IN on-site is seeking a Dry End Operator to monitor and run both manual and automated production equipment. You will assist in mechanical, electrical, and process troubleshooting, while keeping work areas clean and safe.

Responsibilities include operating equipment from filter presses to blender and pack out, adjusting Dry End systems as needed, and collecting samples. Experience with Excel/Outlook and the ability to work independently are valued.

Qualifications

Basic Function:

Under direct supervision of the Production Supervisor, the Dry End Operator will be responsible for monitoring and operating both manual and highly automated production equipment, as well as assisting in mechanical, electrical, and process automation troubleshooting.

Essential Functions:

These areas of responsibility will include but not be limited to:

• Work safely, following all plant rules, reporting all near misses and unsafe conditions to supervisor.
• Keep work areas clean and organized.
• Monitor equipment condition and communicate any deficiencies to supervisor.
• Run all equipment in the process from the filter presses through the blender and pack out.
• Monitor and make adjustments to Dry End Equipment as needed.
• Pull all dryer, kiln, and chaser samples.
• Assist the Production Supervisor in troubleshooting and process repairs.
• Follow directions given by the Production Supervisors and Managers.
• Monitor, operate and clean out the Airvey system.
• Completes any and all other duties, as required or assigned.

Requirements:

• Must be able to lift 55 lb. bags.
• Frequently negotiate areas covered with floor grating.
• Frequent stair climbing (3 flights of stairs every 2-4 hours).
• Horizontal arm pull of approx. 25 lb. of force at a height of ~46” width.
• 70 repetitions per 1.0 hour.
• Operates process using hazardous chemicals.
• Monitors and operates process using computers.
• Data entry into computer using Microsoft Excel and Outlook.

Knowledge/Education Requirements:

• High School Diploma or equivalent required or successfully pass a pre-screening assessment
• Successfully pass a capability test
• Mechanical ability is helpful
• Ability to work independently
