Job summary

Element Resources seeks a Supervisor in Training to support production across multiple departments in Indiana. You will complete on-demand and classroom training and assist Area Managers and Supervisors in timekeeping and disciplinary actions.

This interim role reports to the Operations Manager with training from the Plant Manager and Area Managers. Responsibilities include leading in the Bin Room, directing work, daily toolbox meetings, and ensuring safety and SOP adherence.

Qualifications

  • Current experience in manufacturing.
  • Able to read, write, and speak English.
  • High school diploma preferred.
  • Experience in a union manufacturing plant preferred.
  • Previous leadership experience preferred.
  • Six Sigma or Lean training/certification preferred.
  • Knowledge of problem-solving and quality improvement methods.
  • Familiar with timekeeping systems (UKG or similar).
  • Heavy equipment experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership in the Bin Room and cover nights/weekends as needed.
  • Direct work for hourly employees and model safe practices.
  • Schedule and conduct daily toolbox meetings with hourly staff.
  • Complete shift paperwork including Safety, Quality, and Productivity logs.
  • Ensure adherence to Standardized Work and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Maintain accountability for department equipment and daily checks.
  • Support production activities across multiple departments (furnace, casting, breaker).
  • Participate in training transitions from peer to supervisor and document actions.

Job description

This is considered a "Supervisor in Training" position and is intended to be an interim job. Employee will be responsible for supporting production activities across multiple departments (furnace, casting/refining, breaker). Employee will be expected to complete Production Supervisor training (on demand) and classroom (some overnight travel may be required). Employee will assist Area Managers and Supervisors in timekeeping, the disciplinary process, etc. Position will report to the Operations Manager with additional direction and training provided by the Plant Manager and Area Managers.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Complete training focused on but not limited to:
    • Transitioning from Peer to Boss
    • Emotional intelligence
    • Core content and site-specific trainings
  • Will provide leadership in the Bin Room and some coverage on nights and weekend
  • Will direct work for employees
  • Lead by example adhering and enforcing all safety standards
  • Counsel and complete necessary documentation for training or corrective actions and violations of Plant Rules.
  • Schedule and conduct Tool Box Meeting meetings with hourly employees on a daily basis.
  • Complete shift paperwork daily, to include: Safety, Quality, and Productivity as well as work area logs.
  • Ensure that hourly employees follow Standardized Work and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Accountable for all department equipment, including mobile equipment. Ensure that daily checks are completed and documented.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Current experience in manufacturing
  • Able to read, write, and speak English.
Preferred
  • High school diploma
  • Experience working in a union manufacturing plant

  • Knowledge and experience of problem-solving and quality improvement methodologies.
  • UKG or other timekeeping systems

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Ability to occasionally lift a minimum 50 lbs., regularly lift a minimum 25 lbs. on a daily basis and 51 to 150 lbs. with assistance of equipment on a daily to weekly basis.
  • Regular use of safety glasses and steel toed shoes.
  • Regular use of respirator.
  • Vision requirements; close vision.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • While performing the duties of this job, individual is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles
  • Individual occasionally exposed to precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock.
  • Noise level is minimal to loud.
  • Regularly is working in a dirty lead contaminated area and must wear a uniform and safety shoes in that area to prevent the tracking and / or possible lead contamination of other clean areas or outside or the regulated areas.
