Job summary

The Community Church & Virginia Academy is seeking a Production Coordinator to lead all production technology for Virginia Academy, overseeing audio, video, lighting, staging, and production systems while mentoring students and volunteers through hands-on training.

Responsibilities

  • Lead planning, coordination, and execution of all production support for school events, including chapels, theatrical productions, concerts, assemblies, graduations, athletic events, and special programs.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and event organizers to identify technical requirements and develop production plans.
  • Oversee production hardware and systems maintenance, event support, and volunteer development.
  • Mentor and develop Virginia Academy student volunteers serving on production teams.
  • Develop training materials, documentation, and operating procedures for production systems.
  • Foster a positive, growth-oriented team culture.
  • Coordinate repairs, upgrades, and vendor support as needed.
  • Maintain inventories and technical documentation.

Job Title: Production Coordinator

The Production Coordinator is responsible for leading all aspects of production technology for Virginia Academy, ensuring that every event, performance, chapel, and special program is executed with excellence. This position provides leadership in the areas of audio, video, lighting, staging, and production systems while developing and mentoring students and volunteers through hands-on training and real-world production experiences.

The Production Coordinator serves as the primary technical leader for Virginia Academy, overseeing production equipment, system maintenance, event support, and volunteer development. While expected to maintain a working knowledge of all production disciplines, this role places a primary emphasis on professional audio engineering and sound system management.

This position reports directly to the Production Director

Key Responsibilities:
Production Leadership
  • Oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of all production support for school events, including chapels, theatrical productions, concerts, assemblies, graduations, athletic events, and special programs.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and event organizers to identify technical requirements and develop production plans.
  • Ensure all production environments are prepared, organized, and executed to a high standard of excellence.
  • Provide leadership during live events and troubleshoot technical issues as they arise.
Student Leadership & Development
  • Recruit, train, mentor, and develop Virginia Academy student volunteers serving on production teams.
  • Create opportunities for students to develop technical skills, leadership, teamwork, and professionalism.
  • Develop training materials, documentation, and operating procedures for production systems.
  • Foster a positive, encouraging, and growth-oriented team culture.
Audio Systems
  • Serve as the lead audio engineer for theatrical productions, concerts, chapels, and school events.
  • Configure, operate, and maintain professional audio systems.
  • Mix live productions with a focus on clarity, consistency, and excellence.
  • Maintain wireless microphone systems, digital consoles, playback systems, and recording equipment.
  • Diagnose and resolve audio-related issues efficiently.
  • Ensure all audio systems remain properly maintained and performance-ready.
Video & Visual Systems
  • Support and oversee video production systems, switching, presentation systems, LED displays, projection, and livestream technologies.
  • Operate and maintain camera systems and video routing infrastructure.
  • Support recording and streaming needs for school events.
  • Diagnose and resolve video/visual-related issues efficiently.
  • Ensure all video systems remain properly maintained and performance-ready.
Lighting Systems
  • Program and operate theatrical and event lighting systems.
  • Maintain lighting consoles, fixtures, DMX infrastructure, and rigging systems.
  • Design lighting environments appropriate for productions and special events.
  • Diagnose and resolve lighting-related issues efficiently.
  • Ensure all lighting systems remain properly maintained and performance-ready.
Production Technology & Infrastructure
  • Oversee the operation, maintenance, and lifecycle planning of production hardware and software.
  • Maintain production networking, AV infrastructure, automation systems, and control platforms.
  • Ensure equipment is functioning reliably and updated appropriately.
  • Coordinate repairs, upgrades, and vendor support when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate inventories and technical documentation.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift and move production equipment up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work from ladders and lifts when appropriate.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and work extended hours during productions and special events.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work required based on the event schedule.
