Job summary

Deerfield Academy is seeking a Production Services Coordinator to coordinate sound, lighting, staging, and A/V production for academy programs and events. Reporting to the Director of Information Technology Services, you will liaise with artists and vendors, maintain equipment, train staff, and oversee live streaming in Hess Center venues.

The role requires a degree and 3–5 years of AV experience in performance settings.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree and/or professional certification in sound and/or lighting.
  • 3–5 years supervising, coordinating, designing, and delivering AV in performance settings.
  • Experience reviewing performance contracts and riders.
  • Willingness to work flexible evenings and weekends for events.
  • Strong initiative, self-directed, and able to manage multiple projects.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate production services for theater, music, and events.
  • Liaise with guest artists, performers, and vendors; review technical riders.
  • Maintain AV equipment and coordinate external maintenance.
  • Provide training and support for AV systems in Hess Center for the Arts.
  • Manage live streaming and related venue operations.
  • Assist recruitment and training of staff.

Job description

The successful candidate will receive a $1,000 sign-on bonus ($500 paid at time of hire and $500 paid at the end of 90 days of employment.)

Reporting to the Director of Information Technology Services, the Production Services Coordinator provides coordination, technical direction and technical support in the planning and provision of sound, lighting, staging, and A/V production services.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with many diverse groups on campus to ensure the successful and cost-effective integration of production services in support of Academy programs and events, including theater, music and dance performances, and school meetings;
  • Serve as a technical liaison to guest artists, performers, and vendors, to support Academy events and programs; review contracts and/or riders to ensure/negotiate that technical requirements are feasible;
  • Maintain existing audio/visual equipment including sound, light, projection and other venue systems as appropriate, and coordinate maintenance service from outside vendors;
  • Provide training and support for audio visual systems installed in the Hess Center for the Arts performance spaces, and event and meeting facilities, in collaboration with other ITS staff members
  • Work with performers, event sponsors, VPA and student activities’ faculty/staff, and student technicians to ensure the successful design and implementation of sound, light and staging programs
  • Deliver and deploy audio visual equipment as necessary to support academic and co-curricular programs and campus events
  • Provide lighting design & operation, live sound reinforcement, audio and video services and general stage management logistics in coordination with event hosts;
  • Schedule, monitor and interface with live streaming vendors in Hess performance venues;
  • Coordinate with the Production Services Technician to plan time off, ensuring adequate coverage, schedule overtime, and assignment adjustments as needed;
  • Ensure work is done in an efficient and organized manner;
  • Assist the Director in recruitment, orientation, and training of new production services staff.

Job Specifications

  • Associate’s degree and/or professional certification in sound and/or lighting required, Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 3-5 years of experience supervising, coordinating, designing, and delivering sound and lighting services in a performance environment is required; experience working in an educational environment and training and supervising students is desired
  • Experience reviewing performance contracts and technical riders
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule including evening and/or weekend hours to support special events, rehearsals and performances
  • Strong initiative and the ability to be self-directed, resourceful and creative
  • Demonstrated proficiency in managing multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Facility with and interest in the promotion of cooperation and teamwork with colleagues
  • Proficiency with post-production and presentation software is highly desirable;
  • Willingness and ability to learn additional technologies as needed

Working Conditions

The worker is mainly in an indoor venue environment and is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions. Worker is occasionally subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions, including heat and humidity in the summer. Worker is occasionally subject to noise.
