Job summary

Current Lighting is seeking a Production Buyer to monitor material flow and purchase components for timely manufacturing. You will plan work, manage the material master, and adjust schedules based on SAP MRP forecasts and demand.

The role requires several years in manufacturing purchasing, familiarity with production scheduling, and strong coordination with supervisors and management to meet deadlines. A competitive benefits package accompanies a base salary of $60,000–$75,000.

Qualifications

  • Minimum four (+) years as a manufacturing buyer.
  • Experience with a computerized production and inventory control system.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills across all levels of personnel.
  • Ability to evaluate manufacturing economics for productivity and cost control.
  • Understanding of MRP environments and production scheduling.

Responsibilities

  • Review production schedule and plan purchasing activity to meet weekly production.
  • Meet daily with supervisors to discuss schedules and issues.
  • Monitor material flow and ensure on-time delivery to fabrication.
  • Resolve supply problems with key supply areas and shift schedules accordingly.
  • Maintain knowledge of safety procedures and company policies.

Production Buyer

Position Overview:

The primary responsibility of the Production Buyer is to insure that material flow is monitored frequently, and modified as necessary, so that product is manufactured in a timely manner. Will apply detailed understanding of the manufacturing processes to purchase component needs and material flow. Will plan own work schedule to accomplish specific duties. Maintains material master relative to production. Monitors exception messages in SAP; adjust schedules accordingly. Evaluates planned orders based on MRP forecast, sales demand and safety stocks and release to fabrication as needed.

Responsibilities include:

  • Maintain a working knowledge of all manufacturing processes, procedures, and Commodities.
  • Review system and reports; plan purchasing activity for the production areas necessary to meet weekly production schedule.
  • Meet daily with manufacturing supervisors and production manager to discuss production schedules and problems, in order to be aware of coming week's production needs (related to stock, non-standards, and work orders).
  • Check production schedule and actual work in process for production and material flows.
  • Work with supervisors and management to keep all promised dates.
  • Respond to all shop floor inquiries as soon as practical.
  • Question any computer data entry that appears wrong or misleading.
  • Resolve parts supply problems in assembly department by working with the key supply areas.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of all the Company's safety procedures.
  • As needed, recommend changes in Company policy that would improve product design and manufacture.

Qualifications include:

  • Minimum four (+) years as a manufacturing buyer.
  • Experience must include use of a computerized production and inventory control system.
  • High School diploma is required. College or technical degree is preferred.
  • Specialized courses in Production Planning and Control, Inventory Control, and Manufacturing preferred.
  • Ability to communicate ideas through understandable written and verbal presentations to all levels of personnel.
  • Ability to evaluate manufacturing economics to attain high productivity and low costs.
  • Basic understanding of the machinery, production scheduling in an MRP environment, and functions of people in the planner’s assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Ability to fully understand and exercise required computer functions pertaining to production.
  • SAP experience or knowledge is preferred.
  • Must be able to interact well with others.
  • Must present a professional manner and appearance.
  • Must maintain a clean and safe working environment.
  • Must be conscientious.
  • Must detail-oriented and accurate.
  • Must possess and maintain a willingness to assist in all areas of the Company.

Compensation

The position has a compensation package inclusive of base, bonus (if eligible), benefits, 401k contribution, time off, recognition awards and more. This salary range is $60,000-$75,000.
