Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Transport materials for production via forklift.
  • Label and organize inventory of raw materials and finished goods.
  • Pre-assemble materials for production and prepare for use.
  • Clean containers and fill finished goods as part of production.
  • Weigh raw material components according to batch tickets.
  • Operate manual and automated dumping processes to fill batches.
  • Maintain inventory of cleaned containers and ensure 5S housekeeping.
  • Support PPG Quality Process and safety SOPs.

Job description

Utility Operator – Adrian, MI

Pay Rate: $22.67 / hour

Shift: 2nd shift (3:00 PM - 11:30 PM) + overtime as needed

Job Overview

The Utility Operator provides support for the manufacture of automotive adhesives and sealants at PPG Adrian, enabling PPG's continued success in the automotive market. The incumbent is responsible for completing tasks that enable production and the facility as a whole to run safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities
  • Transporting materials for production via fork‑truck
  • Labeling and organizing inventory of raw materials and finished goods
  • Pre‑assembling materials for production
  • Cleaning containers for use in production
  • Filling containers of finished goods in production
  • Weighing raw material components according to batch tickets
  • Operating manual and automated dumping processes to fill batches
  • Managing inventory of cleaned containers
  • Maintaining 5S housekeeping practices
  • Participating in PPG Quality Process
  • Ensuring safety and compliance with SOPs
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment preferred but not mandatory
  • Knowledgeable in operating industrial production equipment; forklift operation certification required
  • Good math skills and mechanical ability
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Problem‑solving skills and ability to make logical decisions independently
  • Attention to detail and ability to work without direct supervision

Work Environment

Manufacturing, warehouse, and laboratory areas. Requires lifting and carrying up to 55 lbs and moving drums up to 320 lbs with mechanical assistance. Standing for long periods, stooping, pulling, stair and ladder climbing. Must wear approved safety equipment including safety glasses, steel‑toed shoes, hard hat, gloves, and hearing protection.

Equipment Utilized

Lift truck, scales, hand tools, truck dock equipment, and various production equipment. PPE includes hard hat, safety glasses, long sleeve uniform, and respirator as needed.
