Torrey Holistics is seeking a Production Supervisor to direct and coordinate activities of production staff, plan work, implement procedures, and drive continuous improvements in a manufacturing setting in Detroit. You will supervise workers, promote teamwork, and balance quality, productivity, cost and safety to meet schedules.

The role requires lean experience, strong problem-solving skills and the ability to read engineering drawings.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in material handling and/or manufacturing, union experience a plus.
  • 2+ years supervising employees.
  • Able to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Lean / Continuous Improvement experience.
  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Proficiency in operating a forklift.

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

Supervisors directly manage and coordinate activities of production employees by planning and assigning work, implementing procedures, training employees and recommending improvements in shop production while ensuring a smooth and consistent operation.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Coordinate, direct and lead production employees to achieve production levels that meet or beat budget.
  • Determine and assign work schedules and expedite workflow.
  • Coordinate materials for jobs and maintain inventory levels.
  • Examine work for quality and conformance to policies and procedures—1st
    piece and periodically afterward.
  • Supervise production employees to obtain top quality workmanship, efficiency, commitment and teamwork.
  • Responsible for implementation of Lean layouts, techniques, & tools in area.
  • Balance quality, productivity, cost and safety to achieve positive results in all areas.
  • Train, motivate, monitor and evaluate performance of employees.
  • Control and minimize labor hours.
  • Ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed.
  • Perform accident and injury investigations.
  • Responsible for shop floor organization and housekeeping.
  • Minimize production rework, maintenance expenses, and shop supply expenses in area.
  • Recognize and communicate any priority projects or problems, especially those that impact customer schedules & ship dates.
  • Distribute, collect, review, verify and enter employee production cards by specified deadlines.
  • Review, verify and submit employee timecards by specified deadlines.
  • Communicate with co-workers in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Recognize and report to Human Resources any employee problems or personnel issues.
  • Administer CBA & Work Rules and grievance handling through 1st
    Step.
  • Setup work areas for the next day.
  • Open and close the building/s.
EXPERIENCE / SKILL
  • 5+ years working in a material handling and/or manufacturing plant (union experience a plus).
  • 2 + years supervising employees.
  • Able to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Lean / Continuous Improvement experience.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to problem solve.
  • Proficiency in operating a forklift.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Some physical exertion required.
  • Heavy lifting and moving of equipment; lifting of up to 50 pounds.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, bend and move about the facility.
  • Exposure to shop elements such as noise, dust, fumes and odors.
  • Safety glasses and steel toes will be required.
