Job summary

Sonoco in Chestnut Hill, TN, is hiring a Production and Maintenance Technician Apprentice for an 8-hour rotating shift. The role offers a starting pay rate of $31.87 per hour and provides hands-on training across production and maintenance tasks in our plant.

You will perform quality checks, assist with preventive maintenance, troubleshoot equipment, and follow safety procedures while supporting a team that values problem solving and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Experience in an industrial environment or military experience troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining manufacturing equipment
• Experience with PLC troubleshooting, industrial and motor controls a plus but not required
• Comfortable with mechanical lifts, ladders, kneeling, bending and twisting; lifting up to 50 lbs
• Working independently and managing multiple tasks in an off shift position with rotating shifts that will require overtime including weekends

Responsibilities

• Have a “Teamwork” and “Root Cause Problem Solving Mindset”
• Own and follow Safety policies and procedures.
• Complete training from positions of Production Associate to Assembly Mechanic.
• Daily job duties are Maintainer role in Production performing Quality checks and unplanned breakdown repair if required
• Perform preventative maintenance as required (On a monthly basis)
• Perform various manual or mechanical production functions by operating, adjusting, and repairing the equipment.
• Conduct inspection of in-process and finished products and adhere to quality standards.
• Jointly responsible for required operating data such as production figures, machine performance, efficiencies, maintenance, quality / spoilage.
• Record keeping of job tasks on paper and in computer system.
• Supply and maintain required hand tools. (3-month tie frame)
• Perform clean-up, painting, and housekeeping duties.
• Record keeping of tasks in an off shift position with rotating shifts that will require overtime including weekends
