Job description

We explore and discover the limitless possibilities of energy so we can all progress. We believe in the power of talent to shape the future. That's why we're looking for curious, bold individuals who are eager to grow and create new ways forward-people who want to join us in building a more sustainable, innovative, and inclusive world.

We strongly believe that diversity fuels creativity and innovation. That's why we welcome professionals who are ready to grow, learn, and bring their perspective to the energy challenges of today and tomorrow.

Here, you'll find a place to grow and unlock your full potential.

Repsol is seeking a student to intern with the Production Allocation Engineering Team during the summer of 2027.

Repsol is one of the top companies in the oil and gas industry. We are present across the entire value chain: exploration and production, transformation, development, and marketing of energy that is efficient, sustainable, and competitive for millions of people.

Repsol is committed to our internship program and helping students enhance their academic studies with real-world, hands-on projects. As an intern, you'll work on real projects that deliver tangible benefits and measurable results. At the same time, you'll have the opportunity to learn about and help to solve some of the most important issues we face. You will experience genuine teamwork, and work alongside highly qualified and experienced colleagues, while you work on live projects and operations. At the end of your internship, you will present your summer project to our staff.

Repsol's student employment program offers the following advantages.
  • Mentoring by experienced professionals in your field.
  • Increasing levels of challenge and responsibility as skill and industry knowledge grow.
  • The opportunity to gain hands-on experience and apply your academic knowledge.
  • Exposure to different technical groups across the company.
  • Technical and software training.
About the Role

The Production Allocation Engineering Intern will support the daily and monthly processes used to track, validate, allocate, and report oil, gas, and water production across the asset. This role provides hands-on exposure to the full production-volume lifecycle-from wellhead measurement through gathering systems and facility balances to final sales reporting.

The intern will work closely with Production Engineers, Field Operations, Measurement, and Production Accounting to ensure production data is accurate, timely, and aligned with operational realities in the field. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineering student interested in production engineering, operations optimization, petroleum engineering data workflows, or production accounting systems in the upstream oil & gas industry.

What the Intern Will Learn
  • How volumes move from the wellhead to sales and how allocation ties the two together.
  • The relationship between allocation engineering, production engineering , measurement , operations , and accounting .
  • Production reconciliation, facility balancing, and troubleshooting data discrepancies.
  • How allocation accuracy impacts financial reporting, regulatory filings, and engineering analysis.
  • Hands-on exposure to real operational challenges in a producing asset.
Key Responsibilities
  • Daily + Monthly Allocation Support
    • Assist with daily well-level production allocation for oil, gas, and water volumes.
    • Support monthly close activities, including comparing allocated volumes to tank strapping, meter readings, SCADA data, and production accounting system totals.
    • Help identify and reconcile discrepancies in production data (e.g., well tests, theoretical to allocated analysis, tank measurement errors, facility imbalances).
    • Validate PVT data and assist in generating updated well test inputs for allocation engines.
  • Data Quality & Systems
    • Update and maintain production data in allocation systems (e.g., Energy Components, ProCount, Avocet, Aries, TOW, P2 Merrick, or internal equivalents).
    • Review facility balancing issues and support corrections to allow monthly allocation to close.
    • Assist in building or improving Power BI dashboards for visualization of production trends or allocation accuracy.
    • Help maintain allocation network diagrams (well → facility → battery → sales point).
  • Operations & Engineering Support
    • Work with Allocation Engineers to monitor performance trends, identify unusual production behavior, or flag potential well or facility issues.
    • Support analysis on flaring, venting, downtime coding, and production loss categorization.
    • Collaborate with Measurement and Field Operations to verify meter performance, test separator data, tank gauging, and equipment limits.
  • Special Projects (depending on timing and asset needs)
    • Assist with creating or updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to allocation and production data workflows.
    • Participate in allocation model improvements (e.g., new well setups, route modeling, facility optimization).
