Job summary

Smithers - Materials and Components in Akron, OH is seeking a Product Testing Technician to evaluate materials and products, conducting physical and mechanical tests to verify quality, performance, and industry standards. You will use laboratory equipment, analyze results, and help validate products for demanding applications across automotive, aerospace, industrial components, and rubber products.

In this hands-on role, you'll help ensure products can withstand real-world conditions including

  • Conduct laboratory testing according to established specifications and test methods.
  • Follow daily testing schedules and work assignments to keep projects moving forward.
  • Operate testing equipment and perform a variety of procedures within the lab.
  • Collect data, performing basic calculations, and accurately documenting results.
  • Ensuring testing is completed correctly, safely, and on time.
  • Developing a strong understanding of product specifications, testing methods, and quality standards.
  • Following all safety and quality procedures while maintaining a clean and organized work area.
  • Working closely with team members to support quality control, process improvement, and product development initiatives.

Are You Curious About How Products Perform in the Real World?

As a Product Testing Technician, you'll play a critical role in evaluating materials and products to ensure they meet quality, performance, and industry standards. Using specialized laboratory equipment and established test methods, you'll conduct physical and mechanical testing, analyze results, and help validate products for demanding applications across industries such as automotive, aerospace, industrial components, and rubber products.

In this hands-on role, you'll help ensure products can withstand real-world conditions including vibration, pressure, environmental exposure, shock, and other performance challenges. Your work will directly support quality control, product development, and process improvement efforts, helping deliver reliable products that perform as designed.

What You'll Do

As a key member of our Product Testing team, you'll put products and materials through their paces, perform a variety of tests, collect data, and help ensure our products meet quality and performance standards.

Required:

Physical Requirements

This is an active, hands-on role. You'll need to be comfortable:

  • Lifting and moving materials up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally
  • Standing, walking, bending, reaching, kneeling, and moving throughout the workday
  • Working with testing equipment and laboratory materials
  • Using close attention to detail and visual accuracy when conducting tests and inspections
