Job summary

Waymo LLC is seeking an experienced Communications professional to join the global Public Relations team in a hybrid role. You will lead media relations, craft clear storytelling for AI and technology milestones, and support senior engineering leaders with strategic messaging and interview prep.

The role requires a track record in tech communications, juggling multiple launches, and collaborating with Legal and Safety to manage sensitive issues.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in communications (in-house or agency).
• Proven track record of deep media relations with journalists across offensive and defensive storytelling.
• Experience developing and executing communications plans for product launches and technical announcements.
• Technical storytelling chops and mass-market instincts; translate engineering details for AI reporters and lay audiences.
• Ability to run multiple launches in a fast-paced environment with high attention to detail.
• Sound judgement on sensitive, fast-moving issues, and comfort working with Legal and Safety.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute communications plans for product and technology announcements, from feature launches to research publications and hardware milestones.
• Translate complex engineering work into clear, accurate stories for press, technical audiences, and the public.
• Own spokesperson support for designated Product and Engineering leaders, including talking points, briefing documents, FAQs, and interview prep.
• Build and maintain relationships with technology, AI, and transportation reporters and key trade outlets; pitch stories and manage media inquiries.
• Support rapid response for your area: draft reactive statements and holding lines quickly and accurately.
• Write and edit blog posts, press releases, technical explainers, and social copy with high accuracy and tone.
