Payments is a key function for Bank of America. The ongoing development and enhancement of commerce platforms that deliver merchant services capabilities are integral to the bank's future as a leader in payments. The Connect Platform Team is responsible for integrations to these platforms, delivering client-driven payments processing capabilities.

The Solutions Engineer will lead initial discussions with various ISVs such as Point of Sale (POS) providers, Gateways, etc., mapping system architecture and defining statements of work. This requires a keen understanding of payments processing architectures, reporting and revenue models, and communication methodologies. They will consult with external and internal teams, including Product, ISV, User Experience, Information Security, Legal, Compliance, Risk, and others, to ensure that Bank of America complies with all regulations related to merchant acquiring, corporate and commercial banking, and card acquiring organizations, as well as Card Organization rules. The Solutions Engineer will help develop customer-driven solutions.

Responsibilities:

  1. Lead and drive technical architecture decisions, statements of work, and project definitions for POS and/or ISV integrations into Bank of America.
  2. Develop, coordinate, and own broad range of group-wide communications to management, business partners, and vendors.
  3. Collaborate with external partners to develop and certify POS and ISV solutions.
  4. Act as liaison between POS/ISV partners, technology, operations, product, and sales teams.
  5. Document technical architectures, statements of work, and project scope for integrations.
  6. Maintain detailed knowledge of transaction flows (authorization, settlement, chargebacks, disputes, etc.) across various verticals (e.g., Restaurant, Retail, Healthcare) and understand their relationship with card brand rules.
  7. Understand impacts of future Card Brand Networks rule changes.
  8. Establish and manage cut-off schedules for funding based on Line of Business (LOB) requirements.
  9. Identify and provide internal, ISV, and client reporting needs.
  10. Craft detailed solution architectures aligning with client objectives and technological capabilities.
  11. Evaluate and integrate complex system components to develop cohesive and efficient technological solutions.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience in Merchant Acquiring or payment processing.
  • Experience working with Card Issuing and Acquiring organizations.
  • Experience with software development, system architecture, and design.
  • Understanding of payments processing development lifecycle.
  • Knowledge of point-to-point encryption (PCI validated and non-validated), tokenization, alternative payment methods, and mobile wallets.
  • Understanding of integrated, semi-integrated, and cloud-based POS models.
  • Knowledge of network architecture.
  • Experience in writing and negotiating statements of work.
  • High-level understanding of product certification test tools and integration processes.
  • Experience communicating detailed POS and ISV terminal configuration requirements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for complex technical and business issues.
  • Understanding of Project Management methodologies.
  • Ability to manage multiple initiatives and lines of business simultaneously.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills across organizational levels.
  • Healthcare experience is a plus.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Initiative-taker: ability to work independently.
  • Experience with payment gateways and processors.
  • Experience integrating and configuring ISVs into gateways.
  • Proficiency in documenting and capturing requirements.
  • Experience with project management tools and Agile methodologies.
  • Knowledge of programming languages like Java, Python, or C#.
  • Familiarity with gateway payment services such as tokenization, fraud management, and reporting.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in Merchant Services.
  • Professional experience analyzing computer hardware and software.

Minimum Educational Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

  • Analytical and critical thinking skills.

Hours Per Week: 40

Pay Transparency: Salary range $79,700 - $118,900 annually, with offers based on experience, education, and skills. Discretionary incentive eligible. Benefits include industry-leading programs, paid time off, and resources to support employee well-being and community impact.
