Job summary

PDI is seeking a Product Performance Technician to execute rigorous performance testing of our products under representative use conditions. You will document results to support development, claims substantiation, and market-driven initiatives.

As part of R&D, you will apply established methods, record data thoroughly, and communicate findings to internal teams. The role requires collaboration with labs, suppliers, and partners while maintaining compliant lab standards.

Qualifications

• Must have working knowledge of laboratory testing procedures and data recording in a regulated product industry.
• 0-2+ years of relevant experience in lab testing, quality control, or product testing in a regulated industry preferred; entry-level candidates considered.

Job description

The Product Performance Technician executes and documents rigorous performance testing to evaluate PDI products under representative use conditions. This role plays a key part in product development, optimization, claims substantiation, competitive assessment, and customer- and market-driven initiatives by applying established test methods and thorough data recording under the guidance of R&D staff.

The technician runs and applies established test methods to evaluate functional, physical, material, and aesthetic performance. By accurately recording results and summarizing findings into clear technical data, this role directly supports product and business decisions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

• Execute product performance studies by evaluating products under intended or simulated use conditions.
• Set up, run, and apply established test methods aligned with project needs and relevant industry standards.
• Collect, analyze, and interpret qualitative and quantitative data to assess product performance and identify trends.
• Summarize and clearly communicate technical results and conclusions to support product development, claims substantiation, and business decisions.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, external laboratories, suppliers, and technical partners to execute testing and keep projects on track.
• Maintain and continuously improve laboratory testing capabilities, equipment, procedures, and documentation, ensuring compliance with safety and quality requirements.

PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS

• Timely, accurate execution of product performance studies, supported by clear, well-documented data.
• Effective management of multiple concurrent testing programs and shifting project priorities.
• Strong, productive collaboration with R&D, Regulatory, Marketing, Quality, external laboratories, OEMs, and material suppliers.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Food Science, Biology, Engineering Technology, or a related scientific or technical discipline preferred.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:

• Working knowledge of laboratory testing procedures and data recording within a regulated product industry.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• 0-2+ years of relevant experience in laboratory testing, quality control, or product testing within a regulated industry preferred; entry-level candidates will be considered.

SKILLS/ABILITIES:

• Strong cross-functional collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to convey technical findings clearly to varied audiences.
• Familiarity with laboratory equipment, electronic lab notebooks, and Microsoft Office Suite; exposure to Design of Experiments (DOE) and statistical analysis software a plus.
• Ability to follow detailed test protocols and standard operating procedures accurately and consistently.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities with urgency, accountability, and attention to detail.

WORKING CONDITIONS

ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Office and laboratory environments.
• Requires occasional lifting (<25 lbs.), prolonged standing for testing, and use of PPE.

SALARY RANGE:

• $48k-$58k
