Job summary

Western States in Meridian, Idaho is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Technician to diagnose, repair, and maintain diverse equipment across engines, hydraulics, HVAC, and powertrain systems. You will work under supervision with Journeyman guidance, performing preventive maintenance and documenting service reports for file accuracy.

We require a high school diploma or GED with hands-on experience; Caterpillar experience and a CDL are pluses.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; associate degree preferred.
• 1 year heavy equipment maintenance experience required; Caterpillar experience preferred.
• 1 year field service experience preferred.
• 5 years’ experience in heavy equipment diagnosis and repair.
• CDL with a clean driving record and DOT compliance.

Responsibilities

• Develops basic troubleshooting skills on various engine and equipment systems under supervision.
• Assists with repairs and diagnosing machine failures according to time guidelines.
• Performs preventive maintenance on engines, powertrain, hydraulics, and related systems.
• Assists with variouselectrical/hydraulic tasks and repairs to maintain safe operation.
• Writes service reports for files and warranty purposes; supports technician productivity.

• Performspreventativemaintenancedutiesonpowertrainincludingproperadditiveuseandoilsampling.

Electrical, Hydraulics, HVAC, and Cab

• Understandsbasicelectricalcomponentswiththeabilitytotest,repair,andreplacecircuits.IncludesDeutschandAmpseal

Connectors,6/12/24batteryvoltagesystems,andabilitytorepair/replacevariousharnesstypes.

• Independentlyperformsbasichydraulicsystemsmaintenance,includingfluidandfilterreplacement,fullsystemcleanout,

adjustingreliefvalvepressures,andpumpflows.

• TroubleshootsandservicesHVACsystems,includingevacuating,recharging,andreplacingcomponentswhenrequired.
• Basicunderstandingofgeneralmechanical/electricalcabfunctionspertainingtooperatorinterfaces.

Undercarriage

• UndersupervisionofJourneymanorMasterleveltechnicianperformsgeneraltasksintroubleshootingandrepairofvarious

frameandsuspensionsystems,includingtracks,trackpads,drivesprockets,andidlers.

• Identifiesundercarriagecomponentsandperformstracksagmeasurements.

Telematics Installations and Repairs

• Install, repair, and activate telematics systems on equipment to enhance tracking and performance metrics.

DevelopmentPlan(TCDP).

• Utilizesservicemanuals(STW,SIS,andpartsbooks)toaddresstechnicalissuesandperformallrequiredtaskswithin

technicianlevelabilities,inaccordancewithprintedprocedures.

• Developsfamiliaritywithpartsreusabilityguidelines.
• Writesandreadscomplete,factualservicereportsforfilesandwarrantypurposesusingSTWfortimelyworkorderclosing.
• Developsskillsetstoaddressallinquiriesinapromptandfriendlymannertomeetorexceedinternal/externalclient
• Performsotherdutiesasassignedwhiledevelopingamindsetfortechnicianproductivity.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:

• Exceptionalcustomerserviceandadvancedcommunicationskills.

• Proficiencywithsoftwareprograms(ET,STW,PartsIntegration,SISWeb).

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• HighschooldiplomaorGEDrequired, Associatedegreefromanaccreditedvocationalschool preferred.
• Minimum of oneyearofheavyequipmentmaintenanceexperiencerequired;Caterpillarexperiencepreferred.
• Minimum of oneyearofFieldServiceexperiencepreferred.
• Minimum of fiveyears’experienceinheavyequipmentdiagnosisandrepair.
• ValidCDLwithacleandrivingrecordandDOTcompliance.

PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS:

• Ability to stand for long periods of time along with walking, sitting, repetitively climbing stairs, reaching (including but not limited to above-shoulder reaching), repetitive bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, leaning and twisting.
• Ability to generate 97 ft./lbs. of force, by pushing and pulling.
• Ability to repeatedly lift up to 60lbs from the ground and place on a shelf/platform set up to 65 inches off the ground.
• Ability to carry up to 20 lbs. while repeatedly ascend/descend a minimum of ten, 8” stair steps.
• Ability to repeatedly ascend/descend a minimum of 10 rungs on various ladders.
• Ability to assemble/disassemble various sizes of nuts and bolts, while repeatedly bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, and/or crouching.
• Exposure to extreme temperatures and environment.
• Must be able to meet all safety requirements for applicable safety policies.
