Job summary

Western States Equipment seeks a Master Technician in Idaho to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair heavy equipment, powertrains, hydraulics, and electrical systems. The role emphasizes safety, adherence to preventive maintenance, and timely service on Caterpillar and similar machines.

Expect to perform inspections, repairs, and routine maintenance with occasional travel and overtime as needed. Strong teamwork, customer care, and documentation are essential.

Diagnosis, Troubleshooting, and Repair

• DevelopsbasictroubleshootingskillsonvariousengineandequipmentsystemsunderthesupervisionofaJourneymanor

MasterLevelTechnician.

• Assistswithskilllevelappropriatetestingwhilecomparingdatatospecificationstodetermineifthesystemisworkingas

designed.

• AssistswithrepairsanddiagnosingmachinefailuresaccordingtoWSECO’stimerequirementguidelines.
• Performsexperience levelappropriatetasksindependently,includinginspectionsandminortroubleshooting,

whenscheduledforrequiredpreventativemaintenanceservice.

Engines and Powertrain

• Independentlycompletesenginepreventativemaintenanceandinspects/repairsexternalenginecomponents.
• Performspreventativemaintenancedutiesonpowertrainincludingproperadditiveuseandoilsampling.
• Basictroubleshootingandrepairincludeidentifyingleaks,replacingseals/hubbearingsandraces,adjustingclutchbrakes,

removing/inspectingaxles andidentifyingu-jointandyokeseries.

• Basicunderstandingandassistedreplacementofvariousbrakesystems.

Electrical, Hydraulics, HVAC, and Cab

• Understandsbasicelectricalcomponentswiththeabilitytotest,repair,andreplacecircuits.IncludesDeutschandAmpseal

Connectors,6/12/24batteryvoltagesystems,andabilitytorepair/replacevariousharnesstypes.

• Independentlyperformsbasichydraulicsystemsmaintenance,includingfluidandfilterreplacement,fullsystemcleanout,

adjustingreliefvalvepressures,andpumpflows.

• TroubleshootsandservicesHVACsystems,includingevacuating,recharging,andreplacingcomponentswhenrequired.
• Basicunderstandingofgeneralmechanical/electricalcabfunctionspertainingtooperatorinterfaces.

Undercarriage

• UndersupervisionofJourneymanorMasterleveltechnicianperformsgeneraltasksintroubleshootingandrepairofvarious

frameandsuspensionsystems,includingtracks,trackpads,drivesprockets,andidlers.

• Identifiesundercarriagecomponentsandperformstracksagmeasurements.

Telematics Installations and Repairs

• Install, repair, and activate telematics systems on equipment to enhance tracking and performance metrics.

Continued Development

• ParticipatesincontinuededucationandtraininginitiativesasoutlinedintheWesternStatesEquipmentTechnicianCareer

DevelopmentPlan(TCDP).

• Utilizesservicemanuals(STW,SIS,andpartsbooks)toaddresstechnicalissuesandperformallrequiredtaskswithin

technicianlevelabilities,inaccordancewithprintedprocedures.

• Developsfamiliaritywithpartsreusabilityguidelines.
• Writesandreadscomplete,factualservicereportsforfilesandwarrantypurposesusingSTWfortimelyworkorderclosing.
• Developsskillsetstoaddressallinquiriesinapromptandfriendlymannertomeetorexceedinternal/externalclient

expectations.

• Performsotherdutiesasassignedwhiledevelopingamindsetfortechnicianproductivity.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:

• Exceptionalcustomerserviceandadvancedcommunicationskills.
• ProficiencyinMicrosoftOfficeandsimilarsystems.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• HighschooldiplomaorGEDrequired, Associatedegreefromanaccreditedvocationalschool preferred.
• Minimum of oneyearofheavyequipmentmaintenanceexperiencerequired;Caterpillarexperiencepreferred.
• Minimum of oneyearofFieldServiceexperiencepreferred.
• Minimum of fiveyears’experienceinheavyequipmentdiagnosisandrepair.
• ValidCDLwithacleandrivingrecordandDOTcompliance.
• ProficiencyinEnglish(speaking,reading,comprehension,writing).

PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS:

• Ability to stand for long periods of time along with walking, sitting, repetitively climbing stairs, reaching (including but not limited to above-shoulder reaching), repetitive bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, leaning and twisting.
• Ability to generate 97 ft./lbs. of force, by pushing and pulling.
• Ability to repeatedly lift up to 60lbs from the ground and place on a shelf/platform set up to 65 inches off the ground.
• Ability to carry up to 20 lbs. while repeatedly ascend/descend a minimum of ten, 8” stair steps.
• Ability to repeatedly ascend/descend a minimum of 10 rungs on various ladders.
• Ability to assemble/disassemble various sizes of nuts and bolts, while repeatedly bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, and/or crouching.
• Exposure to extreme temperatures and environment.
• Must be able to meet all safety requirements for applicable safety policies.
