Position Overview

Subway is looking for a hands‑on, mid-level Product Owner to own a suite of core enterprise business applications that power Subway's back‑office operations. This role is the primary point of accountability for applications supporting People Operations (Human Resources, Corporate Affairs, Communications, and Facilities), Legacy Custom Applications, and other corporate functions including Finance, Legal, and Accounting. Reporting to the Manager, Technology Services — Corporate Technology, the Product Owner leads Agile and Scrum ceremonies end to end — backlog creation, refinement, and prioritization; sprint planning; user story and acceptance criteria definition; daily stand‑ups; sprint reviews and retrospectives; and stakeholder demos — and serves as the primary liaison between business stakeholders and development teams. This role translates business needs into actionable requirements, manages the product roadmap for the Corporate Applications portfolio, directs vendor and MSP resources, coordinates UAT, and ensures delivered solutions are properly transitioned to production and operational support.

Responsibilities
  • Perform analysis, design, configuration, and implementation of software application solutions to meet current and future business requirements; work with IT leadership, business stakeholders, and vendors to design, develop, implement, and support business systems across Finance, Accounting, Legal, Human Resources, and other back‑office corporate functions, ensuring delivered solutions meet accessibility, compliance, and quality standards; support, maintain, and modify existing systems post‑deployment during hypercare and perform hands on system administration for core enterprise business systems.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, infrastructure, operations, and vendors to recommend application portfolio optimizations and enhance service integration; serve as the subject matter expert for the Subway corporate application ecosystem, translating technical concepts for business audiences; schedule and facilitate Agile ceremonies and requirements elicitation sessions; contribute backlog health, cycle time, and SLA metrics to the portfolio roadmap; and proactively communicate risks, issues, and dependencies that may impact delivery.
  • Own and manage the Corporate Applications product backlog: perform backlog refinement, organize and prioritize incident, service request, and enhancement work, sequence accepted work into releases, and accept completed work against defined acceptance criteria and the definition of done; decompose large‑scale epics into features, user stories, tasks, and acceptance criteria; partner with leadership and delivery teams on scoping, feasibility, and effort estimation; and balance business requests, technical debt, and security requirements in backlog prioritization.
  • Direct the day‑to‑day efforts of assigned vendors, staff augmentation, and external Managed Services (MSP/AMS) resources within contract scope; open, assign, and follow up on tickets to internal IT teams, managed service providers, and vendors — verifying that requirements, incident details, sample data, and supporting information accompany each request — and ensure delivered work is high quality, in scope, and within SLA.
  • Plan and coordinate the transition of application support to operations, ensuring properly documented and monitored software components are deployed to production; partner with QA and business validators to plan, coordinate, and lead User Acceptance Testing, verifying business requirements are met prior to deployment.
  • Create detailed, comprehensive documentation including business requirements, technical requirements, diagrams, process flows, status reports, and test plans/test cases; develop and conduct product presentations and demonstrations communicating the value, capabilities, and features of delivered enhancements to stakeholders and team members.
Qualifications
  • Experience in direct application or systems support, including assessment, design, configuration, testing, and deployment across a variety of application architectures and landscapes, as well as post‑deployment hypercare and structured transition of applications from project delivery to operational support.
  • Understanding of software development lifecycles (Agile, Scrum, Waterfall, Iterative) and experience in a Product Owner or business analyst capacity — eliciting requirements, writing user stories and acceptance criteria, and managing a prioritized backlog; comfort identifying and leveraging AI‑enabled tools (e.g., Claude, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot) and automation to enhance requirements analysis, backlog management, and documentation quality.
  • Self‑sufficient, self‑starting, and highly comfortable working both independently and as a collaborative team member.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to clearly and effectively communicate with people at all levels of the organization.
  • Experience working with offshore and onshore development teams in Agile and Scrum methodologies using industry‑standard tools (e.g., JIRA, TFS, ADO).
  • Knowledge of ITIL processes and best practices; hands‑on experience with an ITSM tool such as ServiceNow required.
  • Passion for working in the QSR/Retail CPG industry and staying current with technology trends.
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, CIS/MIS, Business Administration, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5 to 8 years of professional‑level experience in the development, implementation, administration, or support of business applications.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP) or Certified Product Owner (CPO).
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or Certified Scrum Master (CSM).
  • ITIL/IT Service Management (ITSM) certification.
  • Experience supporting HR, Finance, or Legal enterprise applications (e.g., Workday, SAP, Oracle, or equivalent).
  • Experience in the QSR, retail, or franchise industry.
