Job summary

SchoolTool, based in the United States, is seeking a Product Owner to drive data platform strategy and analytics capabilities for PK-12 education. You will translate strategy into actionable plans, work with customers to define epics, and partner with engineering and UX to deliver features.

You will advocate for users, define success criteria, and collaborate across documentation, training, support, and marketing to release new capabilities while exploring AI-enabled optimizations.

Job description

  • Translate company vision and strategy into actionable product plans with the Product Director.
  • Partner with customers to identify and prioritize needs and document them as epics with requirements and acceptance criteria.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and UX to break epics into plannable features and stories.
  • Serve as the customer advocate throughout development.
  • Validate solution impact against epics and strategic goals.
  • Coordinate with documentation, training, support, and marketing to prepare releases.
  • Facilitate user acceptance testing and feedback demonstrations where appropriate.
  • Assess feedback and reshape team priorities to maximize customer value.
  • Serve as a product subject matter expert for service, sales, and marketing.
  • Represent SchoolTool at user groups and conferences to present features and gather feedback.
  • Facilitate and participate in retrospectives and continuous improvement of organizational structure, processes, and tooling.
  • Leverage AI-assisted tools and technologies to enhance productivity, problem-solving, quality, automation, and innovation.
  • Build and maintain an Advanced Analytics platform enabling school districts and education service agencies to create and use data products, including data lakehouses, reports, dashboards, and advanced data capabilities.
  • Partner with Product Owners across the organization on analytics and reporting needs.
Requirements
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills over complex topics with both internal technical team members and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills, including prioritizing incoming requests from multiple channels and managing concurrent projects.
  • Ability to assess how different users consume and act on data and define context-appropriate solutions.
  • Ability to define data quality, timeliness, and accuracy as product requirements.
  • Ability to define measurable success criteria for analytics features, including adoption, accuracy, and impact.
  • Ability to understand customer data and reporting needs at the outcome level.
  • Sound judgment in the ethical, secure, and compliant use of AI technologies.
  • Ability to identify opportunities to use AI to streamline workflows and improve efficiency.
  • CSPO certification or equivalent certification and/or experience is a plus.
  • BA in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related technical fields preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 4+ years of experience as a Product Owner owning a data platform strategy, including data structure, access, reporting, analytics solutions, and advanced product features is strongly preferred.
  • 4+ years of experience in PK-12, with familiarity with PK-12 data domains, ideally Ed-Fi, is preferred.
  • Must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States.
